Suji's encounter with another forumite reminds me of the discussion we had here about a tastefully done rasikas.org lapel pin, The idea is, you wear it and go to a CM concert. It will be fun to see if you bump into someone with a similar pin or a member who recognizes you. It will be a good conversation starter...

Something like this but a much better pin one of you artistic types can design

It will also avoid an embarrassing situation like a forum member telling a person sitting near him that nowadays a fellow assuming the name of gobilalitha writes utter nonsense, least knowing that the person with whom he is talking is gobilalitha gobilalitha

I edited it to make it a bit bigger and in a different font.

I like the pin design and will turn 90 degree left to look like Om instead of a prison gate.

Vijay,

VK,
The idea of a rasikas.org pin is a good one as long as it doesn't look like a prisoner's ID ;)

:D
It is supposed to be the fret board of a Guitar not a prison gate or a prison id. ;) I copied it from a lapel pin site, one of the few they had about Music. I do see it though, now that you have pointed out. ;)

I will work on it, but you all can pitch in too.

I thought it was intended to look (vaguely) like a harp.

Yes, Harp works as well.

To keep the momentum going, here are some possibilities in 3-D like rendering of rasikas.org on such pins...Color and font can be changed easily ( not sure about if it is easy for lapel makers ) ...

I suggest the picture of Lotus (light pink color) surrounded by the word "Rasikas" because it is the holiest of flowers for Hindus and the beautiful lotus is symbolic of the true soul of an individual. It represents the being, which lives in turbid waters yet rises up and blossoms to the point of enlightenment.

Some one in our group who is good in artwork may help us to design something like that.

Raman, probably not quite what you wanted but a quick try resulted in this... Artists of the forum, where are you all?

The pin will look good with this picture in a white background surrounded by "Rasikas.org". Let us welcome others input and help to give this thought a concrete shape. Thanks VK.

To start with we can print out the design on paper and pin it on .

The following 2 logo designs have been made under the visualization of how we appreciate music, i.e using our hands.

1. This is just a prelim design.
2. We can always change the fonts etc., size of the logo with respect to the words etc.
3. The color combo of SAFFRON and GREEN is right from the Indian flag.

This one is very self evident, as to what we are trying to do with our hand.

Image

This one needs a bit more imagination. Assume that it is the image of 2 palms coming together, for thalam or applause.

I like the idea, but mine will have to carry the words --- but please put talam quietly

;) :D ;)

No, I do like the idea, although it won't necessarily cause to me recognise gobilalitha, so I might still put my foot in it.

For better or for worse, everybody recognises me.

Pin or no Pin, there are very few things that can match up to the excitement of bumping into another rasikaorgite in a concert.
Now am I craving for that next jammy !!!

I really like Naaree's designs! While we're brainstorming, another thought - a photoshopped abstraction of http://rasikas.org/misc/logo.jpg image with rasikas.org text below or around it.

Nice: but you must consider the practicality of reproduction on a surface just a few mm accross!

Of course, we could have a secret sign, unrelated to music, by which we know each other. The we could go on to secret handshakes, signals given by particular hoists of the vesti, getting our members into corporate and official positions of power. Not to mention the strange oaths!

OK, OK, letting the imagination run away again!

couple of weeks before, i saw a lady at Indiranagar. I immediately thought i had seen a senior member of Rasikas.org.
with due respect i went near her and asked "are you Arasi" ...
she politely replied "No" and left.
The lady as resembling exactly like "Arasi" who was seen in the group photo !

Hope her answer was polite when you were respectful in your approach. No, I wasn't in Indira Nagar for the concerts because it is a long way for me (used to be fine until the traffic situation got unwieldy).
Would have liked to have met you. Have to wait until end of this year since I am back home--thousands of miles away from Indira Nagar now!

VK,
Good to be back home.
As for the logo: don't want to 'harp' on it, but harp strings are finer, I would think--unless your intent was to emphasize the bond we rasikAs have which made you go for iron cast strings :) You went for blooms to 'soften' the effect, I suppose. Had you opted for a white water lily, it would have looked like the cover of a CD you are familiar with!
Still a bit jet lagged...

Hear, hear. And following on from that idea, could pehaps putting unobtrusive, noiseless talam be our exclusive secret signal?

Why not go for a rasikas T-shirt? Have a few different versions, that way it won't look like a Startrek convention. :)

Maybe you guys can design a cute 'stick-on bindi' (one for men and a flashy one for women :) that can easily be mass produced cheaply.....

I am just wondering if we need such marks of identification to spot a fellow rasika from here.

do we all not know each other by face and name by now? atleast the regulars here...

Believe me, till some yrs before, I was thinking that if we attend and listen good performances it is enough; and to sing ofcourse,
to improve. I dint learn CM, ie sa pa sa,, but after joining this site only, thanks to chi Shyam (mantra) I started knowing that there are many more aspects that one shud know. I am really proud that many of you youngsters know so much details
abt our devine CM, and you spare, in the midst of your activities, allot due time to this line, in answering, uploading, helping
... Guruvayorappa, so nice. You are listening all, unlike me and manymore of my time, just to listen/talk abt few artists only. Great.
So for me apart from my family members and relatives, friends from the past and recently included walking friends, i have a set
of more friends in you. Hope I can meet some of you atleast this year, as I have decided to come out to listen concerts !

I for one wouldn't mind sporting a rasikas badge even if I knew everyone on the forum..so VK I do hope you manage to come up with something. I will be happy to pay for it if that helps to offset the cost of running the site...

Resurrecting this thread. There has been some renewed interest in getting the rasikas.org badge done.

In another thread, srkris suggested using an image like the following: http://shopping.zeenews.com/v1/product_ ... _large.jpg

Along with rasikas.org clearly visible..

Can anyone in Chennai volunteer to ask around for a badge maker who can do 100 of these to get started?

We will in parallel finalize here what the image should like and what it should read and in what font etc.

How about a cap? More visible than a lapel pin/badge.

I vote for a lapel pin / wrist band or some such which can be worn by all age-groups and with different outfits. Caps, t-shirts etc. too americanized and may not necessarily suit December season attire!

VK: let's have something simple with "rasikas.org" ? Sorry I can't volunteer to have something made. I almost tend to think some things like this might be easier in the U.S. malls tend to have these little stalls where this kind of work is done. May not necessarily be "cheap" but affordable if each person reimburses for his/ her own pin?

rajumds's suggestion (post #14) for each of us to print out the logo and pin to our shirt/sari etc. is the most practical one, considering shortage of time etc. Plus this ensures each of us has a badge in place, instead of waiting for the logistics of getting these to people etc.

And we could go with VK's initial logo (post #1) just for this year. Print it (in colour if possible, and multiple copies just in case the badge wears off etc), then bring it along to events. Let's see if it works...and we can improve on it for 2010.

What do you all say?

Makes sense. No need to "hunt" but in case one bumps into another badged person... would be fun. Lamination is easy at many photocopying places.

I vote for the big gold helmet which one sees in TV-ised Maharbharat. It will make us easily visible to each other, and completely maddening to everybody behind us.

;) ;)

But seriously, it is shame when we find that several of us have been in the same concert and not known...

Safron color T shirts or sarees will be good ID and every one in rasikas group can recognize. In US T shifts are available for $5 in Walmart

Nick,
:) A grand (mahA) imagery. The cost of the elaborate head gears will be written off by sponsors too!
Are women rasikAs being thought of? T shirts, caps...We may stick out like sore thumbs attracting unwanted attention. Srini is right about it. A wrist band is a good idea, a simple badge too, which can be printed out, and we can wear them while we enter and exit a hall. If you have it on all the time, Nick, listen to this: with loud tALam/talk prone neigbors, we will end up with their asking us 'during' the concert, why we are wearing such a thing, what does it signify, and continue relating whatever we say to neighbors, and they to theirs.
I have done the following: look out for rasikAs I know as I arrive, again when I leave the hall. If I happen to see one 'during' the concert, I wave, so that if they have a minute after the oncert, we are bound to say hello, and introduce the ones we know to others.
Best of all, have three sessions or more, announce them on the forum and make it to at least one of them. Mornings or early afternoons are the best for meetings. If there is a jam session, after ten at night!

Then better to stay at home and listen to the crows in our gardens!

The worst thing, when I used to go to London HM concerts, was to be seated behind a tall Sikh!

Speaking of which, what happened to the more simple "turban" worn in this part of the world, that I see in old pictures? It wouldn't be a high as the helmet --- and the mental image of that gleaming gold, catching the light at several points in the audience is making me chuckle too :)

I like the wristband idea too:
http://www.reminderband.com/pricing.php

If we have 50 or so takers, it would only be a buck and some per band. I'm sure there are cheaper options out there too...

How about at the end of tani, all the rasikas just stand up and give a standing ovation irrespective of how the tani was? ;) . That way we all will know? Badges and wrist bands can make it easy if we are in the line of sight. Just kidding anything is fine.
