I performed at 2 places during the dec -jan season.... !
though both places were in prime locations in the city, It was disappointing as an artiste to be dancing to near empty halls..........!
If all the crowd prefers only the famous and senior dancers, when will upcoming artistes like me ever get any encouragement?
its very disheartening..........!

I understand your pain. Then again, very senior artistes have been singing to almost empty halls year after year, so too younger ones (for lesser number of years). Then there are those who sing (dance) to full houses and get berated! That is show business, I guess.
Hope you will dance to a larger audience in the future...

it is one of the very bad effects of TV, while the womenfolk will be fully occupied with the tear jerking serials, the gents will be monkeying with the remote,(symonds to excuse) take courage, srinandini, all the present day seniors have suffered such a situation, in their earlier appearances . see the post on sikkil gurucharan in the thread kutcheris may God bless you .gobilalitha

srinandini,
why did you perform at the dec -jan season, and not in september? with 15 dance recitals a day, don't you think that many rasikas face difficult choices? how do they know if you are a good dancer? look, other upcoming dancers promote themselves on youtube, and get encouragement.
bad effects of TV? dance in thaka dimi tha or in mega tv's natyanjali.
if you want a crowd, go to a small town's temple in tamilnadu and dance there.
prime locations in the city are seeing the oversaturation with (mostly bad) dancing today

dear samskar 60, i understand your point... and appreciate the amount of thought you have put into the issue. I have already had my go on jaya tv's thaka dhimi tha...... I am a non resident indian... who can make it to my home country only atleast once a year. Being a professional who has been learning for the past 16 years, i deem it an honour to be able to perform during the dec-jan season when I come home to india.

samskr60 raises an interesting question. There will be more of a crowd in the halls of small towns since the townspeople hardly see classical dance performances (except on the TV). This way, old performing arts don't just stay in big cities. I have heard of a project where some dancers take their art to villages, performing in simple attire and with less hoopla.
Wouldn't it be nice that for every performance in the city, the dancers from abroad also stage a show in a remote town in TN, Andhra or Karnataka?
Srinandini, performing in Chennai during the season must be exciting. Next time, you could also plan on presenting a simple affair in a town by networking with friends and relatives. If you do that, you may get the satisfaction of performing to a full house as well!

nigamaa, why are you posting the Second Life (SL) India related stuff in this topic? ( I will have to find a place for this and move it there )
It is quite interesting I have to say, people have done incredible work in Second Life to bring Indian costumes, culture ( old and new ) and decor there. The Bollywood stuff is quite comical..
