Recently I cleared out my attic and in the process brought out my collection of photos of sangita vidavans and vidushis and also articles an writeups on CM published in various magazines over the last 30 to 40 years.

If the members are interested I will post them in the appropriate sections.

By all means! We all would love them and also to discuss historically. Post them in the history thread if they relate to the erstwhile veterans!

I intend to post the items in the relevant thread if one is available. I will post a short message in this thread what and where I have posted so it is easy for those interested rasikas to go to the appropriate thread.
My first post is the English translation of Kalki's review of GNB's 1944 Tamizh Isai concert. I have posted this in the Vaggeyakara section under the GNB thread. The translation is based on a 1999 reprint of the article. I will scan and post the original within the couple of days.

I will post three anecdotes all of them pertaining to the audience keeping time ( putting talam) during a concert.

The first one relates to Veena Dhanmmal.

During one of her private concert at a rasika’s home Ramanaiah Chettiar, reputed Jalatarangam vidwan of that era, who was in the audience got carried and started keeping time.
Dhanammal stopped playing abruptly and asked “who is that?â€

Thanks Kaapi...another warning to the errant timekeepers - a tribe of which I happen to be a particularly notorious member!

kaapi:

Upload the picture to http://www.tinypic.com/

It will give you a url for posting to forums ( surrounded by IMG tags ).

Copy and paste that url here.

VK,
Thanks. I have been able to do it.

I have pasted the pictures of TNR and the Tiruveezhimazhalai Brothers in the Vidwans section under their respective threads.
Pictures of more Nadaswara vidwans follow.

I do not have the year in which the photographs were taken.
These are from a reprint from various issues of Ananda Vikatan wherein they have appeared over the years. They were reprinted in Dinamani Kadir in 1999.

I have started a new thread " Nadaswara Vidwans" wherein I have posted the pictures of some nadaswara vidwans of the early 20 th century. More to follow.

They did a yeoman service to the CM community at large by providing high quality music at no cost during their overnight concerts as part of the temple festivals.

It is unfortunate that many of today's CM rasikas do not even know them by name. I hope this will trigger people to search out more information about them.
