World Record for youngest person giving a concert at the Chennai Music Festival and Releasing an album on the violin. Google servers are down and are not pulling info from the world records page. Will show up in Google in 3-4 days once the problem is fixed. I will send the link once the server issue is fixed.
The album was recorded at Carnatica in Chennai on Dec 27. Released on Dec 28, 2007 by Shri P.S. Narayanaswamy and Shri Cleveland V.V. He was accompanied for the solo concerts in Chennai by Hanumanthapuram RJ Bhuvarahan on the Mrudangam and Pudukottai N Ramachandran on the ghattam.

Sandeep is a disciple of Shri Jayshankar Balan in Detroit.
Sandeep was one of the two boys that played for the Sustaining Sampradayam program for Cleveland and his Guru Jayshankar helped elevate him in short spam of 1 year from a person just playing varnams and krithis to a person who can play ragam, swaram, niravel.
The presence of Shri Raja Rao mama and EMS mama boosted the CD and it is simply fabulous. If any one is interested, please contact me for a copy. Phone - 312 - 683 -7605.

I've been to several concerts by Jayshankar Balan, and i know him to be a reputable violinist. He would not have the audacity to declare that it only took a year to get someone to play ragam swaram and niravel. To pursue these things is a life long endeavor.
And what a silly world record, but that's just me.

Sandeep is 12 years old.
Music is a life long endeveour. Shaping a person who is very premature and scared to even attempt ragam etc, to someone who has a concept of what is involved is what I meant. With many many more years of listening to seniors, practice and guidance from Guru, Sandeep will mature.

I agree with mri_fan that it is a silly record. For information about the "World Records Academy" see the About Us section. They seem to be a rival to the Guiness Book of Records but have doubts about how they verify the claims. You can submit your own records and purchase a certificate from them for proof.
I claim the record for 'the first person to provide a link to the World Records Academy on rasikas.org"!!!

I guess the advice we are trying to give is as follows:
don't focus on these kinds of gimmics about world records and the like...your son clearly has some musical talents and he has a good teacher. focus on having him attend and listen to as many concerts as he can, and he has a great chance of becoming a very good violin player one day.

There's nothing audacious about such a claim. It is very plausible and probably true and nothing to get amazed about. Musical ability, like all other skills, varies vastly and one-sized assumptions do not fit all.mri_fan wrote:He would not have the audacity to declare that it only took a year to get someone to play ragam swaram and niravel. In any case best wishes to the kid, reflecting the ever sane and well-grounded Vijay.

All the best to the youngster. They need cheer leaders more than the other kind who may have reasons to question records and the like, but we need to leave the youngsters out of the picture while doing this. Any creative effort of a child has to be appreciated and what's more, encouraged...
