Excerpt from this article on Oduvars:
==================================================
The following famous verse from the Tiruvasagam of Saint Manikkavasagar, often sung by oduvars, provides a good example of the devotional yet deeply philosophical quality of the Tirumurai:
"To the one who embodies within Himself the Vedic hymns and Vedic sacrifice, truth and untruth, light and darkness, joy and sorrow, the divided and undivided, the attachment and release, the beginning and ultimate end to Him our songs of praise we sing."
==================================================
Does someone here know which Tamil verse this refers to?

I listened to an Oduvar in a temple here in London, and his singing was amazing. Are there any oduvars who have gone onto the concert stage?

MM Dandapani Desikar was from the OduvAr family. His father MuttaiyA desikar was an OduvAr.

By tradition OduvArs are supposed to sing in temples only I think. Maybe that is why they have not transformed themselves into concert musicians. They do have solid musical knowledge and training.

Wonder if the fact that they all came from a specific community also had something to do with this.

I have heard DKP sing "paal ninaindoottum thaayinum saalapparindhu" of Maanikkavachakar in Mohanam - perhaps a reflection on tradition!

kanthakottam ve. sairama othuvar performs at thamizh isai sangam. i attended his thirumurai isai concert this year, it was very engaging, direct, clearly pronounced and full of emotion, despite his age he hardly seemed to need a mike.
