Recently I attended a dance recital by Rama Vaidyanathan. She chose the well known Bhairavi varnam.
Interstingly, there were lyrics that were set to the tune of the muktaayiswaram as well as the swarams in the Charanam, which were all very nice.
Is this part of Pachimiriyam Aadiyappa's original version or an improvisation for dance.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks

I think aDiyapayyA (who happens to be one of ShyAmA ShAstri's gurus) had composed the sAhitya as well, as coincidentally at the time there was a dancer named viribONi at the tanjAvUr royal court( interesting dancers chose aTatALa varNAs to choreograph dance those days!).kamalamba wrote:She chose the well known Bhairavi varnam. The sAhitya is included in p sAmbamUrti's Carnatic lesson book; though I don't think very many render it along with the anubandha (mentioned in the sangIta sampradAya pradarshiNi of subbarAma dIkshitar).

Viriboni has been sung in commercial recording by many musicians including MSS,TNS and also Sanjaykamalamba wrote:Thanks Vageyakara (Ramaraj sir) and KM Rasika for the information.
Indeed, shades of Syama Sastri in Adiyapayya's (actually the vice versa I suppose) patterns of constructions were evident in the Bhairavi Varnam in its entirity.
Is there anyone with a recording of the full Varnam?

I thought Kamalamba was asking if there was a recording *with the anubandha* included.baboosh wrote:Viriboni has been sung in commercial recording by many musicians including MSS,TNS and also Sanjaykamalamba wrote:Thanks Vageyakara (Ramaraj sir) and KM Rasika for the information.

I have heard Vidushi Vedavalli sings it. May be Prashant can help here.
