Recently I attended a dance recital by Rama Vaidyanathan. She chose the well known Bhairavi varnam.
Interstingly, there were lyrics that were set to the tune of the muktaayiswaram as well as the swarams in the Charanam, which were all very nice.
Is this part of Pachimiriyam Aadiyappa's original version or an improvisation for dance.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks

Hallo kamalamba ji
Nice to see u posting your views on this forum. The caraNam line "ciru navvu momu" is a more appropriate place to depict adavus earmarked for expatiating shringara bhavam

I think aDiyapayyA (who happens to be one of ShyAmA ShAstri's gurus) had composed the sAhitya as well, as coincidentally at the time there was a dancer named viribONi at the tanjAvUr royal court( interesting dancers chose aTatALa varNAs to choreograph dance those days!).

The sAhitya is included in p sAmbamUrti's Carnatic lesson book; though I don't think very many render it along with the anubandha (mentioned in the sangIta sampradAya pradarshiNi of subbarAma dIkshitar).

Thanks Vageyakara (Ramaraj sir) and KM Rasika for the information.

Indeed, shades of Syama Sastri in Adiyapayya's (actually the vice versa I suppose) patterns of constructions were evident in the Bhairavi Varnam in its entirity.

Is there anyone with a recording of the full Varnam?

Last year at Mudhra if I remember correct, the Malladi Brothers presented the kambhoji ata tala varnam with sahithya for chittaswaram and muktayiswarams.

I thought Kamalamba was asking if there was a recording *with the anubandha* included.

I have heard Vidushi Vedavalli sings it. May be Prashant can help here.
