Is Sangeetha Swaminathan going to be singing in Chennai this season? Do not see any mention of her in the schedule - and she was not present last year, so I am hoping she will be in this year.

Very interesting, that listing of concerts. I wonder if outside of the music academy, how many of these concerts exist as immortal recordings? would I not love to get my hands on some of them.... :)

Why the heck must you irritate by posting the same schedule EVERYWHERE?

I hear that other than few celebrity level popular concerts (Sudha, Bombay Jayashree, TMK,..) the concert attendance is very poor, even at the academy. I heard from multiple folks that morning sessions at academy that used to be prime slots once upon a time, with significant attendance, bearly have 15-20 people in the audience.. Now, I don't participate in Chennai music season, even if I am in India.. I will be south in Bangalore and Mysore (where most of my familiy and relatives live,,). But it is interesting to track these events and attendance..

There is one school of thought that, carnatic music is really not for the masses.. So, may those few folks attending morning sessions at the academy are real conoisures of music, and attend these events for the vidwat and scholarship of some of the artists..

Crowd for this will not be an issue, as all EXTENDED FAMILY and FRIENDS will be there to attend the event. Additionally, stalwarts like Lalgudi, PSN, etc will be at the event. It is free if anyone is interested.

I'm sure that many Chennai residents wonder why we should pay hundreds of Rs to see artists that we can watch courtesy of of Nalli's or Krishna Sweets during the rest of the year. I certainly do!

However, there do seem to be a good number of people that it doesn't deter! Or maybe they are all visitors...

Maha Vishnu, I read in one of the posts that you are Kalpathi Ramanathan's grand son. Are you the son of Smt. Ganapriya?? She was my teacher at school and also my music guru at school. I live in Canada now and would really love to get back in contact with her. You can drop me an email with her contact info at [email protected]

Guys

Karthik Fine Arts schedule is already up in http://www.mglunplugged.com. Looks very impressive line up from a reputed sabha.

This year, I do not see much effort from other sabhas to promote their stuff.

Hi

I want to go to the Aruna Sairam concert at Chettinad Vidyashram today. It is part of the Jaya TV Markazhi Mahotsavam. How easy is it to obtain a seat? Please tell me if some advance booking is required.

No booking is required - the concert is free...but go well in advance - preferably well before the preceding concert starts...

Very nice to hear from you on this forum.

Are you related to Kunnakkdudy Venkatarama Iyer who was an expert perfomer of Kavadi chindu? I ask because of the way you spell your name (unlike Kunnakkudi Vaidyanathan or Master Balamuralikrishna for that matter).

Kunnakkudybala,
I attended both Lady Wellington and Sarada Vidyalaya which means I remember many faces from both schools. I am very much your senior! It would be nice to meet fellow rasikas. Most of them are as young as our children and grandkids too in my case:)

My daughter loves kavadi chindu songs in bharatanatyam arangetrams. In fact I posted another question related to Valli Kanaval in natyam forum and purchased DKP rendition from Amazon.com mp3 downloads
Do you have a CD with songs? I would like to purchase when we are in Chennai in 2 weeks.

Thanks

Mr Raj You can contact me when you are in chennai. you can get the book of Kavadi chindu in carnatic music book centre. Kavadi chindu songs are composed by Sennikulam Annamalai Reddiar. My father propagated it. I released a book with swara notation. In fact long back Smt Vyjayathimala staged a program with these songs during a music season.

I also have some pada varnams composed by my father.

Attendance Award
There is a prize for the person who has attended the maximum number of concerts this season. All you have to do is mention the concert you attended, the date and timing. Don't forget to include the song list because that is what will act as proof that you attended the concert.
Curious to find out if anyone from this forum (or someone they know) won this award.
