raaga identification thro film songs.

vividh bharati has been running the programme sangeeth sarita for nearly 30 years, the main idea being educating the listeners to identify the hindustani raagas, by comparing them with various popular film songs ,.t he method adopted is,as you are all aware is to play classical songs, explain the aaroh and avaroh, play film songs based on raagas,the examples being the very popular o duniya ke rakh wale from baiju bawra in raag darbari, , matwale naar in raag hamir and the beautiful kaise din beete from Anuradha in maanj kamaaj and hundred of otherssongs . podhigai and jayatv has statrted playing melodious hit songs , based on raagas, but the raagas are not explained . will it be too much of a strain to expect any rasika to start an exercise in this regard , in a thread of the same heading as the subject , he or she can select one or two raagas every week , post permissible songs , explain the raaga. songs of ms, mkt, mlv will be a.source in abundance gobilalitha I HAVE LEARNT MANY HINDUSTANI RAAGAS THIS WAY gobilalitha

Madurai G S Mani has given NUMEROUS such programs, and they are fabulous. One such set is sold commercially.
