TAMIZH MAYYAM presents........

" Lalgudi Mārgam"

A Dance Presentation by Eminent Dance Gurus

Padma Bhushan Vidwan Lalgudi Jayaraman is one of the very few, if not the only living musical virtuoso, whose compositions are not only being sung on the concert platform by ever so many artistes, but also being performed in dance by eminent dancers all over the world.

Shri. Lalgudi Jayaraman's musical genius has inspired him to compose a whole galaxy of music from Varnams to Thillanas. His operatic ballet "Jaya Jaya Devi" is unique in so far as it is perhaps the only such composition by a living composer completely from lyrics to music. It was performed all over USA and Canada under the auspices of the Cleveland Cultural Alliance and in several cities in India.

As a fitting tribute to this multi-dimensional 'living legend', eminent dance gurus are coming together on October 22, 2007, to perform 'Lalgudi Mārgam' at The Music Academy. It has been called 'Lalgudi Mārgam', because the compositions being featured on this evening run the gamut from PUSHPANJALI to THILLANA - all compositions of Shri.Lalgudi Jayaraman.

The Gurus / Schools who are offering this tribute are (in the order of their presentation that evening), The Narasimhacharis, Professor Sudha Rani Raghupathi's 'Bharathalaya', Smt.Chitra Visweswaran's 'Chidambaram', Smt.Rhadha's 'Pushpanjali', The Dhananjayans and Kalakshetra.

GUEST OF HONOUR- SHRI . N. MURALI-PRESIDENT, MUSIC ACADEMY.

The program yesterday was just fantastic. It was an event of a lifetime to have a great maestro's work presented in front of him. Kudos to the organisers for such a meaningful program
