Although I am not at all of this persuasion in many socio-political areas, I say that the answer here, very simply, is that the market rules!

If audiences do not like a performers behaviour they should withhold their applause and their presence.

I think it is too often forgotten that we, the audiences, are the employers of performing musicians (even if indirectly when there is sponsorship). They are not placed on that stage by some sort of divine process; there is a very real economic aspect to their appearance.

Applause to that! but would we do that??? DID we do that?
It doesn’t matter whether one is a drunkard or an addict or an occasional drinker, he violates the sanctity when he takes stage in an inebriated state and sets a wrong precedence. My take is this shouldn’t be allowed.
Agreed, as I said in my previous post, the key words here are "takes the stage"....
I think you have misinterpreted the purpose of my comments about banning smoking in cinemas. Many actors have mass following and the fans tend to blindly follow the actions of their role (rogue!!) models on the silver screen.
Sorry if I misunderstood you. I don't remember my post (too lazy to relook), but yes, you are right. And yes, the younger you are, the more influenced you are by the actions of the ppl you look up to...
Otherwise, it would become the case of trying to straighten the dog’s tail. I am not aware of any one who waited until he gets matured to start learning smile
Why do I think this concerns me???????? :D:D:D

I bet the icons are representations of your baby pics!
Nothing like a baby's smile to stop you in your track. Hope the same happens to this thread--stop!

my uncle who was once a seceratary organised a concert for flute mali sir and i heard him saying that he had to buy him a glass jar full of whiskey for him so that he can perform in that concert.and fortunately my uncle said it was one of his magnificient and pardon my words a posthumous concert(why i said this is because whether the person drinks to beome unconcious or sleeps to become unconcious both of them are dead for the moment).but unfortunately i believe it was one of his last as well.funny is'nt it.

i have seen hindustani music gurus smoking the huqqua and the seeshas.claiming it to be some sort of a ritual.i don't care what they do but when the music is presented they must beome holy once again.
this is like when everybody goes to sabarimala thye remain so honest so pure so madi and after their pilgrimage everything starts again, like comedian vivek says "start the music".

the play of the senior vidwans can be quite amusing and interesting but once again they are only humans.i prefer to study their better side(in this sense if some vaggeykkara has a very good presence even in his personal life i will still appreciate that side as well).so i suggest we follow this method but coming back to nicks argument that children should'nt follow this, i am with him in this.

with respect to drunk rasikas well there was this time when i performed in bangalore i was singing sriranjani raagam.thre was this old man who looked serene and was really appreciating me with the following words at junctures in my performance "bale" "sabash" "aah" "aaiyoo(with a feeling of a mother cuddling her child)".i could'nt help but look at this person for a long time.i thought wow i have fans even in bangalore who love my music.unfortunately a lady who looked like a maid came and with much difficulty pulled him out of the stage after the sabha seceratary ordered the drunkard to get out of his auditorium.
but five minutes before i got a hint when i made a crackle in my raaga aalapana in the higher sthayis this person lifted his hands in full vgour of appreciation.then i knew.
