In World Space's Sruthi, Trichur Sri Ramachandran mentioned that Parimala Ranganatham has been composed by Dikshitar in Dhrupad style. Has Dikshitar been associated with Hindustani music in any other instance? Are there any compositions of Thyagaraja and Shyama Sastri in Dhrupad style? Thanks.

Dear Shadjam
Dikshitar went to Kasi with Chidambaranatha yogi and lived there for many yrs.( 7-8?) The hindustani influence is very tangible in many of his compositions. he has also introduced many ragas like Dwijawanti and Brindavana sarangs. in fact, I heard Sri S rajam say in one lecdem that perhaps Thyagaraja took these ragas from Dikshitar when he composed in Hamirkalyani and Brindavana saranga. these ragas were not there in Carnatik music prior to Dikshitar. Even Neerajakshi Kamakshi in Hindolam, Rangapura Vihara, Akhilandeswari are all in this mould. I am not aware of any Thyagaraja or Syama Sastri kriti in this style:)

I would like to know if the 'dhrupad style' can be defined or described? Also, how does it differ from other styles of composing and/or rendering krithis? Thanks.
