Thanks Kji and kmrasika.
Having listened only to Ikanaina so far in this raga, the other two sound quite different for me. The ST krithi sounds more along the lines of Manirangu whereas the MV krithi rendition sounds like a close cousin of suddha dhanyasi. Do you all see the similarity in all the three songs?

Coolkarniji, what a wonderful rendition of the krithi! Never heard it before. Well, when I heard the pallavi, my thoughts were on kannaDagauLa (it almost sounded like the opening of sogasujUDa) then maNirangu as the vocalist traverse the upper octaves. Then again, if you hear MS Subbulakshmi's ikanaina, when she traverses the upper octaves, you get a kharaharapriyA shade as well (just my opinion).
At least now I know why not many don't musicians readily take up this rAga for performing.
BTW, the rAga of this song is supposed to be pushpalatA(??): http://www.andhrabharati.com/kIrtanalu/ ... su151.html

Wow...what a beautiful clip. Thanks coolji.
Amazing manodharmam! I doubt if anyone can handle it with such finesse. Btw, is it shri bhakthavatsalam and shri harishanker accompanying her?.

Yes, I definitely did and thank you kindly for the clip. MLV's rendition certainly has high rAga integrity(not undermining the rest, they were good as well). How carefully she traverses the upper octaves and adpeptly descends, strictly adhering to the ArOhaNa and avarOhaNa.coolkarni wrote:kmrasika

You are certainly blessed with divine providence hearing her live. I remember reading a trivia about the relationship between her use of jewellery and the phase of the concert. The numerous sparkling jewels in her rings, necklaces and earrings are analogous to her use of brilliant and animate briga-oriented music. You also probably know she was one of the few artistes that performed improptu (no rehearsals, practice sessions whatsoever).coolkarni wrote:I am thankful to the Lord Almighty for having given me the privilege of hearing her concerts , Live.
