So i sing this bhajan in my temple regularly..tripura sundari maa ambaa dayaa sagari maa...its in raga shivaranjani...i would like to kno how can i best learn this raga...what exercises to do etc...so that i will sing this bhajan to my full potential... I an not too familiar with proper musical notations but i will try to best represent it...the bhajans are sung like this...lead singer sings one line them backup singers follow by repeating the lead...the bhajans are sung in two speeds...first slow...and the lead singer sings each line twice...then fast and each line is sung once...some may have variations where half the line is sung by the lead and followed by the backups...

You have also asked for exercises. But, what kind of exercises you want to know, whether of notes or rhythmical or voice or any other. In regard to notes get an inspirative Electronic-automatic-tambura along with additional notes and tune it to the notes of Mohana along with Shadjas, Panchamas and Antara-gandhara and practice with it for some time singing the same notes mostly each of more than half-a-minute merging it properly in Shruti. Later, remove Antara-gandhra and include Sadharana-gandhara (excluding Madra-shadja and Mandra-panchama) and practice. Rhythmical – listen to the 1st track of Chaturashra-gati along with inspirative instrumental music provided in my CD, recently uploaded by our brother-member, vasanthakokilam, to help our members, to the website <http://www.sangeethapriya.org/~chandra/> and put two beats of two units each with both the hands per each second. In near future I am trying to use yahoo. Messenger to speak to the aspirants and sing the required music through the microphone to enlighten them. In such case, if you give me your relevant e-mail and messenger ID I shall try to contact you. OK. With best wishes, amsharma.

Dear brother-member, srisairamesh, My extensive research spread over four decades starting from 1963 on Talaprastara was done mostly in the early hours of the day i.e., starting from 1 a.m. of our Indian time. That’s why keeping awake at that time is not a problem at all. Try to get a PC at the earliest and fixing some time we shall try to sing through it. I have already frurnished the details of Gamakas, in the thread ‘Gamakams, Ragabhavam, Ragalakshanam’ under Kalalaya in my 9th post and you can go through that. If you want to get my book also you can contact mtumuluri@wesleyan.edu and get it. However, as this aspect of Gamakas should only be demonstrated but not read in books, I shall try to get the ‘messenger’ affair solved at the earliest and you try to get a PC at your earliest. Then I shall demonstrate what ever you want. Immediately after getting it I shall contact you by e-mail. With best wishes, amsharma.

Dear brother-member, srisairamesh, You can also contact me through my ID 'msakella2000' of Skype also. Eventhough I have furnished my ID of Yahoo messenger in profile I could not furnish my ID of Skype in my profile as this provision is made in this site only for a few of them. It would be nice if the organisers extend the same provision to other brands also in the profile. amsharma.
