See the picture of the recent teppOtswam! After 35 years, kapAli and karapagAmbikai were able to truly go around the tank! While a picture is said to be worth a thousand words, I think, to have actually watched this (sort of) Bavani of kapAli would have indeed required 'kaN Ayiram'! Can anyone who was blessed to attend this paint a word picture for us? If I remember correctly (from 'some where in my youth or childhood'), isn't there a floating concert as well in the teppam? Who was the fortunate person to perform this time?

Sorry this has nothing to do with music (well, maybe: who knows but the answer might?!)
Kapali tank has been dry for years, perhaps decades, right? Only this year with Chennai's amazing rains has left it wonderfully wet.
Given the years of dryness, against the very few months of water: Where did all the fish come from?

Thanks Meena for the thoppam picture link.
My father with his brothers and sisters grew up with in a mile of that whole cultural mileau that the tank represents. We have heard family stories which revolve around the temple, the tank and the other landmarks. And that 'tank' does not even need to be qualified, there is only one 'tank'
That picture brought back memories of all those stories and family events which happened before our generation came along. Nostalgic indeed.

there was a theppa utsavam of kesava perumal in chitra kulam as well. who said rains are bad.
Fortunately, Parthasarathy Perumal has his float everyyear. It rains or not, His tank has water and the theppam happens every year with full vigour. It is starting in the last week of Feb this time i guess.
