There is a place not too far from your address where my wife and I sometimes, if we are in the area at the right time, go to listen to a very different kind of music which is performed every evening...
A tiny park in Indira Nagar is hugely popular (I have no idea why) with hundreds, maybe thousands, of crows and other birds. The noise they make when preparing to roost is absolutely stupendous and overwhelming. I wish I could live there and hear it every day!
On our last visit we were amazed to discover that we could also observe bats more closely than I ever have done before. Better than a visit to the zoo!
I'm sure that they too will be singing their welcome to the new year, but, as ever, I remain unqualified to comment on their choice of raga.

Nick,
I live in a street adjacent to this park - and yes, the noise the birds make is so overwhelming, that I've often wondered how people manage to live in that street! In stark contrast, it is very silent in the mornings - mama-s and mami-s go on their morning walks, discussing amongst other things, carnatic music.

...that makes me all the more sad that it was not possible for us to buy a house nearby ---I am a night bird myself, who hates being woken for dawn.
Sriram, I am very much looking forward to the visit to your house, as well as the music.
Balaji, I look forward to meeting you at one of your concerts when I catch one.
