A teacher's loss is perhaps greater than a performer's...my condolences.

It has been more than a week since this great giant left this mortal world. Nonagenerian Kumbakonam Rajappa Iyer, the great mridanga vidwan and a great Teacher is no more amongst us now. He passed away on 5th March 2007. He has many disciples all over the world and his son Shri.K.R.Ganesh is an accomplished mridanga vidwan. (I couldnt mention earlier as i was out of station for nearly 5 days and also in fact i played one concert in Bangalore on 6th in place of Shri.Umayalpuram Mali, who is also a disciple of Vidvan Rajappa Iyer, who wanted to be near his Guru's at the time of his last rites).

Following information along with his Picture appeared in the Hindu in 2001.

Another Item appeared in the Hindu last week :

Of course the coverage in Hindu was not befitting enough for this giant. At least this forum members can recollect fond memories about this Great Vidwan.

Many learnt from him: Shri.K.R.Ganesh, Srimushnam Rajarao, Shriram Brahmanandam, Kumbakonam Ramakrishnan, Umayalpuram Mali, N.Vijay Siva (Vocalist), N Manoj Siva (before learning from Palghat Raghu), Chidambaram Balashankar and host of other 100s of musicians.
