I have heard vidushi Vidya Kalyanaraman in a live concert only once , this is my second concert of hers . She belongs to possibly the next best guru after Shri PSN , her guru who is still performing is Suguna Varadachari. There is Brinda M, Vidya K , Aishwarya Shankar and among vidwans Suguna V's son Bharath kumar and also Adithya Narayanan Shankar. Suguna V is from musiri school , atleast for few both Suguna V and Late Suguna Purushottaman were great duos who carried sampradaya touch
This vidushi Vidya Kalyanaraman sang with lot of drive and emote . In first place this auditorium Vanimahal Mini Hall is one of the best sound acoustic halls kind of like yesteryear Kalarasana , hall is bigger than NGS mini , there is no disturbance as entry is restricted to rear only so there is undisturbed music. MS amma slokham is almost a opening invocation for most vidushis and she did well with her voice in fine form in gnana nanda mayam. Kamas varnam is far more detailed than most varnam it gives a more dearer touch to rasikas and does not just appear as just one small opener
What a joy to hear MayamAlavagowlai in general . Her voice did have a lot of undercurrent power and she did very well with this ponniah pillai classic having a guruguha mudra he gave run for the money for nadajyothi with this mAyatheertha swaroopini. My mind raced to one longest rendition of Tadepally Lokanadha sharma who had then taken a lot of emote and sangathi weight from one the top 2 or top 1 greatest singer MDR who is mmg superstar
eevasudha and sahana was a sub main . Sahana gives joy especially on this day when i had decided to hear too much music . Eevasudha and say giripai are poles apart in gait , i am assuming ee vasudha in sahana was perhaps championed very differently by GNB , Vidya sang very well .Musiri bhavam was great with MD krithi of Anandabhairavi . What a ragam and what a joy to hear kamalAmbA with uninterrupted rendition. NExt shripathE was fast filler but failed as a Fast filler as she did not sing swaras . Many musicians do not sing swaras in fast filler , i am assuming it takes a lot of energy and she did not do that with nagaswarAli .

06A. rAMa rAmA gunasheemA (R N S T) - simmhendra madhyamam - MV
11 mins alapana and 06 mins violin return
neraval in muni mAnasa dhAma mrgamada for 07 mins
swaras for 08 mins
06B.tani for 18 mins
07A. viruththam thanthai thAi veravar.... irakkam varAmal - behag -?whose viruththam help needed?
07B. irakkam varAmal - behag - GKB
08. aariru thani thom - folkish song (may be Maand) - ???
08B. sukhinObhavanthu - madhyamavati
It is a strict 2 hour only concert and i knew with two semi submain and one fast and slow filler , i assumed it would not be big 6 raga. I was right with my prediction and she sang a nice simmhendra madhyamam. I heard for the first time in my life when santhanam sang this song , i think she sang a neraval in a different line and she did well with R, Krithi , Neraval and also swaras
Her confidence came out very well with the viruththam , with behag and nice line she stylishly ended with irakkam varAmal and this GKB krithi is a emotive superhit. Vidya choice was impactful with irakkam varAmal. I dont know if the next song is folkish or is that tirruppugazh , i am forgetting both the raga and the diety. I have not heard this song aariru thani thom ,it was just quick and she ended at sharp 6pm with sukhinObhavanthu. Vanimahal main has a 6 30 pm ticketed slot , i think they stop sharp at 6pm to have adequate canteen break . I left without any food /coffee as my home is closeby and i came out more satisfied with vidya Kalyanaraman.
B Ananthakrishan violin was nice for most part , konjam for first few songs konjam violin tune sounded bit excess press . The biggest contribution was unquestionably this vidwan Vijay Ganesh .HE can be tagged as the next big loss of brain drain vidwan , after trichy sankaran. Patterns have a great unsagging kalapramanam , his guru is the great Late Kumbakonam Rajappa Iyer who has given lot of performing high quality sishyas. I liked his play throughout with he towing so well with the song , bit reminded of Srimushnam who always is known to play with songs . I would have been happy if he did not play such a long tani for a 2 hour concert (18 mins) . Chandrasekara Sharma is raising very well from a to be star to a sure star in ghatam .Nowadays he is also bit playing like Ghatam Karthik with lot of one finger tap sounds etc and they go very well.
Kudos for vidya kalyanaraman and her gurus Suguna varadachari and also her first guru Padma Chandilyan (Mrs Srimushnam Raja Rao), for making her stick to sampradaya sangeetham.
Overall an excellent concert for 2 hours

A dedicated and competent singer. Confident and consistent. A rare combination.
Family musically devoted, so nurtured her gift. Add to it the work of guru Suguna Varadachari in guiding her. Then of course, guru in her younger days, Padma Chandilyan, as mentioned later (not Prema as mentioned initially).
Haven't heard I vasudhA in ages. A pick of a song. Did she sing the chittaswaram too, I wonder.
