12th SKB memorial concerts at Indira Ranganathan Trust: Sunday December 28 2025

The 12th SKB memorial concert series will be held on Sunday 28 December 2025 at the Indira Ranganathan Trust. We have been very fortunate to have this beautiful venue for the last 8 years, starting 2018, thanks Vidushi Aishwarya Shankar and her most generous family.

We will have 3 full concerts and a lecture demonstration (for the first time in SKB concerts)

3. Lecture Deonstration: The Music of Vidushis Smt. Radha and Smt. Jayalakshmi by Dr. Deepika Janakiraman

So nice of you to continue with your 12th series . You are bit like miniaturized mini Music Academy. One Hindustani , surely one definite instrument along with one or more vocal. Particularly you making a lecdem(for the first time) is very appreciated , that too when we all have forgottten Radha Jayalakshmi. These sisters for sure were popular fighting in the space of galaxy of GNB Disciples . Post their retirement they went almost incognito. Special thanks to IRT team , they are fabulous .

May i/ we know who is Dr. Deepika Janakiraman, bit more introduction or links about her.

Hi Rajesh

Deepika is from the DKJ Patantharam. She is also a chemistry PhD from Indian Institute of Science and is currently in IIT Madras.

She is a very good singer, but she is going to combine her research background with her music background to delve deeper into the music of RJ.

Your family is offering even a better fare this year, honoring dear GKB, of course. He would be proud of his brood for their making it a day of such variety. Besides every year's Carnatic and Hindusthani concerts, you have a lecture demonstration as well about the famed sisters of the GNB school. Is Dr. Deepika from THE Jankiraman clan?

I will miss the warmth of your family on top of all that you are offering and the ambience. It's not far from the madding crowd but how lovely the atmosphere there is!

I do hope you all have a lovely time with the music and the coming together after a year. Warm regards to your mother and all the family

I was able to attend only for a delicious lunch and the Hindustani concert.

It was lovely to be there!

@arasi The event was again a smashing success.

All three concerts were brilliant. The Hindustani music by Pandit Ballesh and Pandit Krishna Ballesh, the carnatic muscis by Dr. Aneesh Bhat (student of our dear Kalaimamani Suryaprakash) and Veenai concert of Vidushi Veena Venkataramani (student of the veenai exponents Jayashri and Jayaraj) were all spectacular.

A highlight of the day was our foray into Lecure Demonstration space.

Dr. Deepika Janakiraman gave an outstanding narrative of the music oF Vidushis Radha and Jayalakshmi.

Deepika is a carnatic musician with a theoretical physicis / chemistry background. She put in enormous effort and gave a story around RJ that will stay as a classic. The recording will be ready for viewing tomorrow. Deepika is not from THE Janakiraman clan, but from an equally scholarly family. That showed in her presentation.

We hope to see you in person next year.

Thank you for your prompt response with details of the happenings of the day. Seems as though you had some excellent music to offer besides the lecture. With some luck, I would be there to salute dear SKB (GBL!) next December.
