If Suryaprakash sings 2 hours concert the content is atleast 2 and half hours . WE had 15 mins extra as it was a 2 hour 15 mins concert, he did make it as virtual near 3 hour concert. When tani is quite proportionate and also when violin return is commiserate to the overall plot coupled with voice and sound setup if done perfectly it is a super concert.

What matters in a concert is just mainly 4 numbers, i would humbly state that classical Carnatic live concert pulls me immensely with this 4 - submain, main , RTP and Viruththam/Slokham (ragamaliga)

Parthasarathy sabha is celebrating its 125th year , what an achievement ,we owe a lot to them for their spirit in organizing concert where they dont even own a hall like academy or skgs or ngs. The submain was venkataramana in lathangi , i am assuming it was cherry picked with the sabha in mind . Voice already was in full form and he did a nice sweeping neraval and an exceptional swaras.

What a joy to hear an immediate Main after submain, Ganakaladhara school owns KAnadA and sukhievarO. The alapana was dense with aesthetics with a crisp violin return , he started a bit with extremely great shruthi sudham and laya blend in sukhi evarO . In swaras he was just too good , konjam approach was a bit like MMI with short quick turnaround and then very very long one go as though it was a ragamaliga RTP like swara downpour for atleast 2 or 3 rounds was extremely manOdharmic. Ideas had a short anchor of kAnadA jeevapidis but most of them were spot on manodharmam taking along the percussion intensity that KVG and Murugabhoopathy had created then

Immediately after Main it was RTP in a rare ragam Priyadarshini. I forgot how this ragam landscape is , it has a lot of Chaya to neelamani is what i thought .Ragam was mostly suryaprakash with a short crisp return by Murari. Taanam was non metered and had quite a lot of aesthetics. Pallavi neraval had the raga mudhra all 3 swaras were brilliant . Priyadarshini with swaras finished second behind Hamsanandi and behag was a great intermediate.

ThirumargAtrupadai RagamAliga viruththam was well done in both suddasArang and Rakeshri , Madurai somu popularized, kavignar vaali was the one who wrote the lyrics , This ninaikAda neramillai was and is a very emotive drop

01. brova bAramA(S) - bahudAri - T
04 mins swaras
02. kamalAmbAm samrakshatumAm - Anandabhairavi - MD
06.Thunbam nergayil - desh - Bharathidasan (Dandapani desigar)
08. karpagamE - madhyamavati - psivan

The start in brave O RAmA did kalaikattufied the concert. Both the percussionist grabbed the bahudari and settled with excellence right from there. The vilambit kamalAmbam was a nice contrast with a lovely muse of AnandaBhairavi created a nice calm before storm launch pad . I particularly liked the thumbam nergayil . Desh and tune of dandapani design of this Bharathidasan has been handled by him and many many , it brings 10 X count of rasikas . What i immensely liked is his vaggeyakkara creativity that had a nice onspot aesthetics .

The words of thunbam nergayil had a phrase thamizh iRaivanaarin thirukkuRaLilae orusol but on the spot he adds words like nanniriyilE, tholkaapiyathiLE , silappadikArathilE .... and then the tune changes significantly he adding kannadAsan kavithayilE futuristically and also go back to tholkappiam and silapathigaram and it was fantastic . He usually adds special dimension of aesthetics in swaras where it fits so well to the mood of that krithi, but this time adding this line was also extending Bharathi dasan words and connecting the joy of Isai and kavithai thamizh was super cool.

For curiosity i just searched to know when Bharathidasan moved on that was 1964 , he must have heard atleast a decade or the early first quarter of kannadasan creations , it is joy for suryaprakash to connect kannadasan to a song of much earlier departed Bharathidasan. This is just like some unknown nadaswara vidwan adding musical aesthetics by adding cittaswaras to sobillu sapthaswara. Desh was surely far more Besh.

VVS Murari is quite underrated in circuit . He had nice shruthi suddham he made an impactful presentation. I saw this sabha has honoured him with dwaram venkataswami award .HIs appa has got this year Sangeetha kalasarathi award at a such a young age ,kudos to VVS . Both the percussionist gelled well , with lot of longer cycle of swarakalpana ideas they had enough runway to play more. Particularly more than the tani , i liked the sukhi evaro in swaras where Kanjira-Vocal vs Mrudangam-Violin criss cross happens. At the end of madhyamavati, there was a standing ovation from crowd for the unsagging concert.

Overall an excellent to outstanding concert for 2 hours and 15 mins

Suryaprakash is known for singing plenty of tamizh songs in his concerts. He would know I miss listening to him live. Why, I am missing the whole season :(

Suryaprakash, if you happen to read this page, it was a pleasure to meet you and sweet wife Chithra at that special wedding in Chennai several months ago (when I made a quick trip to India). I came for a day and a half to Chennai for the wedding and the Unjal song (rAgamAlikA) you had composed for the occasion was lovely! God bless you for that pleasing voice of yours too.

Rajesh,
I wouldn't call Bharathidasan a mere composer. A full-fledged poet he was. If I might remind you, he was a dAsA of Bharathi and he aspired to write poetry like him! He was a singer as a youngster. Bharathi was taken by listening to his kachEri in a wedding.

Bharathidasan wanted to be poet like the mahAkavi--thus the pseudonym that he chose for himself. You read it years ago in 'Oy BharathiyArE!' in Rasikas.org's literature section...
