Music Academy along with NGS and SKGS is what i thought are 3 key sabhas say 2 decades back. SKGS is bit out of my radar as music is only kept at 4 pm and evening 2 slot goes for dance. Music Academy does something so spectacular year on year , they do intense mining of artists. Well the main artist we generally know , they mining to the extent of finding say a plethora of even upapakkavadhyam artist and giving a chance certainly ensures patronage of artists contribution. That is one dimension. They have jacked the price of tickets , it is 500/1000 in first floor and 2200/3000 in ground floor for the evening 1 and evening 2 concerts . For handpicked few like raga /sanjay and may be abhishek it works , for the rest i doubt that too with MFAC,IFA etal sabhas being nearby, i suspect the strategy is 50 50. But what do i know the NRIS have not arrived then at dec 16th mow from this 20th sat they are there. This is second dimension , i hope they correct the pricing dimension and correct it.

This is my first live concert of Kalyanapuram Aravind . 15 to 20 years before when one musician S kasturirangan sang i could not spot much difference with his Guru TNS. With Aravind the overlap of TNS is also indeed highest of high. The hall did have lot of seats to be taken status ,the todi start was the best counter to show classicism . Vidwans TVS /TNS had this strategy of saving time .They start with a bit of alapana and bit detailed slokha/varnam and then get into first number . The first varnam in todi was era nApai, that came out very well. Hamsadhwani #2 is a always a great choice , he sang well and kept up the momentum with brigas in sree raghukula , i liked neraval bit more than swaras.

Poorvikalyani is a standard submain. The alapana was well sung and had a good return . The krithi ninnu vina is a classical paddhati krithi and he did well , here the swaras were bit more expansive and i enjoyed it. The slow ranganayakam krithi of MD is rich in bhava , tns sir is known to have taken to exalted status , Aravind could have sung bit more like his guru , he did well but little more longer jaarus would have helped us to enjoy nayaki depth . . The fast filler sivakama sundari in jaganmohini was a filler krithi and had no swaras not my best of choice.

The grand Kharaharapriya came out as main. For his throat taking a lot of nadaswara pidi, chakkani raga and KHP is a great choice . Neraval was well done, swaras were not that detailed . He moved on to a detailed Single raga RTP in ragam latangi . He sang very well the alapana and got the punch with no trespass of Kalyani or pantuvarali doubts. Taanam was well sung , here i saw and heard a lot of TNS . Intensity was high with both open mouth and closed mouth rendition. Pallavi amaippu was excellent, he did a very nice trikalam, swaras were bit tangled , i think he started way too late the swaras in RTP as though he was singing a 2 hour instead of 2.5 hour concert . I felt lathangi swaras could have been better -clock is the reason. The last tillana in behag is a bit of eye opener , OVK thillana that came even before the trinity means a lot about OVK Contribution. Behag thillana was done well despited clock constraints. With just a minute nee nama just unfolded at sharp 09 15 PM

Akkarai sornalatha had nice azhuttam , she erred a lot in proportion dose , both KHP main and Ragam of latangi had a long return, definitely because of that Aravind lost his time to elaborate bit more both Main and RTP. Akshay Ram played with lot of alacrity, i am not sure if i have heard him in a full fledged concert , may be this is my first hearing . Koundinya in ghatam gave great support watching carefully and never overdoing, i think this may be my first or second concert of his . Tani was crisp and they also did well at the end of RTP when a mini tani was given.

Overall a very good to excellent concert
