Personally i had booked for this concert to hear RaGa Sisters .Their concert was cancelled and Vishnudev substituted them which i knew. Vanimahal may have had more collection , Vishnu like previous Vijay siva had the same audience with lot of seats empty in between paying lowest cost to VIP / member passes.
2 and half hours in a prime evening paid concert will surely have a RTP is what i thought and i just went in few minutes late. Vishnudev in the last few years i am enjoying him a lot , he has a lot of sowkhyam and his imagination is very grand and he does not go with too much of kanakku . This concert i felt possibly he did not have an enjoyable ride , a bit of slight rough throat atleast in the key main number , he made up before and after especially in RTP
appan avatharitha must have been a phenomenal discovery , i am assuming Semmangudi must have first popularized it . It is an extremely engaging raga what a composition gait that Sivan took from his possible manaseega guru Sadguru Thyagaraja. It is a juicy full toss not just for the vocalist also for percussion team . Vishnudev sang very well , konjam sound balance problem was slightly there but it just got settled at the start of neraval. Neraval was detailed swaras could have been detailed more , hey it is not 3 hours concert
The contrast of a MD Arunachala nAdham adds sufficient brake to the racy Sivan appan avatharitha. Felt he could have repeated few more times few certain lines , nevertheless saranga and MD are a great combo to bring classical heavinesss. Vishnu then sang a very good alapana of bindumalini. I always associate Lalgudi Jayaraman violin for this ragam and krithi. There is this Lalgudi direction typecast in entha muddo and there wasa lot of Enta SugasU also in my ears
Main main it had a lot of commas where the commas created a fragmented experience of joy for me. Alapana was bit rough sangathis due to little scratchy throat, did he try some thing like TRS there taking at some unconventional point. I felt he caught in between an approach of KVN or a TNS . In this brochE va revarurA krithi i found the patterns of Delhi Sairam was a extreme contrast in many places . Swaras konjam kanakku pottAn but he did not give sufficient time to come back to extended sarvalaghu

05. 3 raga RTP in mukhari + Todi + Thillang
Alapana for 24 mins with liberal vocal and violin
Taanam in all 3 ragas by both
Pallavi line in Mishra jhampa with neraval for 13 mins
Pallavi line was dAsa MukhAri raghupathiyai NInainthOdi vandal maruthi lankaikkul
swaras in all 3 ragas for 06 mins
06. taruni nyAN-dwijAvanthi - ST
07. chandrachooda - darbAriKAnadA - ST
08. tOm tOm tada ... poornachandrikA - Poochi Srinivasa Iyengar
09. pavamAna + mangalamkOsalendrAya
RTP was nice in imagination.I thought hey what a mukhari and had a fee of nice tODi , thillang took some time for me to identify , i liked that third thilang ragam choice as it created more janaranjakam cushion. Taanam was measured in all 3 ragas and he made an impart konjam TNS was evident. THe Pallavi line had all 3 ragas embedded ,i recollect TNS sung this thilang embedded RTP and once i heard suryaprakash taking few words different for the same thilang RTP , VIshnudev also had nicely adapted with possibly slightly different phrases . I dont know what dAsa mukhAri, i am assuming dAsa is 10 all the rest of phrases meaning is very evident. He ran short of time did rush the swaras , unlike R T and Pallavi neraval ,swaras were suddenly like a 2 hour concert
In the tukkadas he sang quite well . THe percussion speed of Delhi Sairam did not gel that well for ST dwijAvanthi. Poornachandrika the speed of percussion gelled well but this thillana is always sung in such speed . The intermediate darbari was more like dwijAvanthi
L Ramakrishnan is surely the man of the match. I would like to point out in RTP where when vocalist sang in all three ragas he ended crisply and also in taanam and swaras he was always willing to give more air time for the vocalist. Only when he was asked explicitly by vishnudev he played little more , that is a great pakkavadhya violin dharmam .L Ramakrishnam has a remarkable clarity in raga lakshanam and has great grasp to suit the main artist style . FOr 8 to 15 years timefram i used to think S Varadarajan, HN Bhaskar , Akkarai Subbulakshmi and late Nagai Sriram are great stars as accompanying artist with precision and grasp. Put L Ramakrishnan in that list(Thank You A kanyakumari).
Delhi Sairam is a complete avatar of Tiruvarur Bhaktavatsalam. He is so full of speed and there is sufficient aggression , it works very well if the throat of vocalist has consistent more power that too with Ghatam and Mrudangam at times joining in tandem . Vishnu konjam had a little short fall , possibly toppi volume at times is the culprit. THe vocalist has to be more conscious in the way they sing or who knows the house did not have the right volume balance . In Some numbers Sairam contrast of speed say in ST tarunin nyan just did not give the vocalist their space to reach with their sahithya and shruthi bhAvam. Tani could have been reduced by few minutes , swaras of RTP had a less quantum or absence of a even small viruththam /slokham is just due to lack of time.
Overall a very good to excellent concert for 2 and half hours.
