Re: AdithyaNarayanan Shankar@Sri Radhakrishna SamAjam(Ragasudha hall) On Nov 27th,2025
I have personally heard this Adithya Shankar only in recording , more when he was a student of Suguna Varadachari. I know in recent few years he is a student of TM Krishna . This is my first live concert of his and it was intensely satisfying first impression concert for me.
Adithya Shankar has a very pliable voice and his ideas are certainly resembling TMK a lot(preshuffle days) . The start was intensely classical with a rare hamsadhwani varnam jalajakshE . I think i have heard only once in live concert by Abilash and may be one lovely rendition by Hyderabad brothers in recording who sing so well . Adithya brilliantly started with hamsadhwani , both speeds were very well done and hamsadhwani start is always a joy.
If #2 falls as maayamalavagowlai or its derivative like jaganmohini ,there is nothing for me to even minorly complain . Sobillu sapthaswara ensures a lot of nadaswara pidi like approach , lovely neraval and swaras after an intense anchored krithi. After the Drop of the fairly ubiquitous vaggeyakkara T following with the leisurely MD was lovely. Ranganayakam with nayaki came exceptionally well ,not a millisecond i ever thought that he was may be singing darbar in alapana. Krithi rendition was clean with a great surprise of swaras
The mandari krithi paraloka of T was a bit of drop of quality. He did not give enough impetus and singing a krithi as a quick closure krithi without N , S or R does not interest me that much unless it is a big mighty krithi or a swarajati. TMK had taken a lot of semmangudi in the rendition of the big 5 shankarabharanam , Adithya sang methodically in stages and really did a great job in this big 5 shankarabharanam. After an impressive alapana in shankarabharanam i was thinking may be he will go for saroja dala netri as T and MD was complete. No qualms to hear the mighty Akshaya linga vibhO of MD again, the neraval in badari vana moola was very well done , could anchor an intense shankarabharanam , swaras were done very well keeping the same intense kalapramanam tightness.
This sabha i am participitating for the first time , i noticed the chief patron is Papanasam Ramani bhagavathar and his son R Sankaranarayanan (ace mrudangist and student of ace guru srimushnam) also doing the sabha patron work . RSN prompted from first row bhajan. I thought why so early in any case hari hari rama rama was very well done and the rendition did not suddenly change the texture from Carnatic concert to radha kalyanam dolotsavam. The pick of tukkadas was indeed the tillana of HMB in hameer that has a rare cittaswaras that also added more musical sheen. The last number karunA rasa tunesmith was RKSK , the ragam Yamunakalyani was cool and was in praise of chandrasekara swami (Can some one help to know who is the lyricist )
L Ramakrishnan is a phenom for sure . He is the present day V V Subramaniam . Nalla azhuttam , toeing so well during course of song and unquestionably great sense of proportion .L Ramakrishnan does not try to over smart the vocalist and also partly sabotage by playing longer return which was a problem for many bigger jambhavans . HE was wearing a yellow/orange jibba and there was a 3rd to 5th student intensely seated next to him in stage who was his sishya ,that was a master card moment for sure , in 5 to 10 years from now , i am pretty sure to see another Kanyakumari-L Ramakrishnan - next gen sishya in action. For the first few songs the sound of kanjira was slightly overshooting mrudangam , but as such there was great team work in rhythm especially keeping tani for 12 mins ,giving more air time was lovely .
All said when i heard Vignesh Ishwar for first few concerts ,i could spot Vignesh Ishwar as a great student of TMK. For sure this vidwan Adithya SHankar is surely in that zone of excellence . HE sings with joy and most important a high share of intensity. Possibly musiri-suguna Varadachari bhavam is also imbibed very well in nayaki or did that come in thillana .
The joy of discovering a new artist for the first time in a live concert is intensely satisfying in every kutcheri season .In general I was happy that there was no shuffle with orphaning krithi approach that one of his guru brought in that gives a nosedive approach in a Carnatic concert.
Best wishes for Adithya Shankar to continue with the same exhibited joy and intensity. I did see Cleveland Balu and his wife ,so NRI's are also there in kutcheri season.
Overall an excellent concert for 2 hours and 15 mins.
