After a long gap, we are again starting uploads in the Parvathi finale set. Kindly visit:
https://chowdaiahandparvati.blogspot.co ... of-tr.html

Concert Details:

T.R.Subrahmanyam-vocal
Lalgudi Jayaraman - violin
Vellore Ramabhadran - mridangam
M.A.Krishnamurthy - ghatam
30-3-1977 during Sri Ramanavami festival at Parvathi.

There are some real gems from the golden 70s here - TRS with Lalgudi going toe to toe in Kalyani, Natabhairavi, Begada, Ragamalika and so on.

Enjoy!

Lovely concert . TRS mama gives so much rigour and brings a new angle(sudden drop of a ragamaliga swarams in neelambari inbetween the ubiquitous KAnadA and Behag) for each and every concert pushing the carnatic envelope in his own charming way. What a rigour in every number especially begada.

LGJ bit long in his equal vocal like proportion return but he had the charm of such melodic precisioin. Vellore Ramabadran gives such sarvalaghu precision - not even one anavsiya HIT on mrudangam, no wonder all range of musicians had Naadabhadran mama. Great support by MA Krishnamurthy

For the Laya observer delight:

See where he pauses dviShadbhuja and takes kArtikEya with a dhIrgam bhRgA on "kA,,Rti" - the AkAram crossing the arudhi mid point, compressing kEya mEyA with what is left past that odukkam ( or syllabic shift!).

That is TRS! He is the pre-TNS precursor to that style of handling a kriti!

Beyond the pAThAntaram!

Rangaramanuja Iyengar confided to Cleveland Sundaram, who confronted him with a question - "If you lament that music has declined , who if at all do you think is singing anything well??"

RRI named two musicians : 1. TRS 2. TNS

May be, may be... , these aspects have something.. , something to do with that assessment ;)

I will go one step beyond Ranga Ramanuja Iyengar .

All musicians see bhakthi and actually squat and cover up. The one and only Taala Raaga Swaroopan (that is the expansion i coined 15 years back in this forum for the great TRS) never squats in the name of bhakthi .Sees music for pure music sake and consciously gives a great new angle - intense consciousness with zero coverup and squat.
