THIRUVAIYARU-KSHETRA-KRUTIS
...
Thyaagaraaja was resident of Thiruvaiyaru for more than 50 years. It is said that he left Thiruvaiyaru only after his 70th year to visit Lalgudi, Srirangam, Kanchipuram, Thiruppathy, Kovoor, Thiruvotriyur, Chennai, Nagapatnam and then back to Thiruvaiyaru after that tour .
The Siva temple at Thiruvaiyaru is known as Pancchanadheeswarar temple. The lord is also named as Pranadharthihara.
The Devi is known as Dharmasamvardhani..

According to Dr.P.P.Narayanaswamy, Thyagaraja has given us 7 krutis on Pancchanadiswara, 10 kritis on the Devi DharmasamvardhanI.
Additionally, he has also given us three krutis on Kaaveri river there.

Meaning:

Is the grandeur attainable even for brahma and others ? O Damsels Come , let us behold.

Is the grandeur of Lord Siva going in procession - thinking of Parvathi – the green bodied - the supremely holy One –attainable even for brahma and others? O Damsels! Come, let us behold!

As all the paraphernalia(of the Lord) charmingly shine in the hands (literally fingers of hands) of people resembling demi-Gods ,
as true devotees extol Him to the delight of their hearts , and
as jasmine garlands together with a lot of ornaments dazzle on His white body ,is the grandeur of Lord Siva, coming in procession in the palanquin studded with all precious stones in the cool hours , attainable even for brahma and others? O Damsels! Come, let us behold!

Is the grandeur of Lord Siva – the Lord of five rivers coming in procession very charmingly ,whole-heartedly accepting at every step all nice sacred offerings ,along with plenty of (literally limit-less) services , and very joyfully ,with the intent that ‘I shall search and bestow , abundantly , their wishes to those devoted people who always perform name-chanting and penances attainable even for brahma and others? O Damsels! Come, let us behold!

Is the grandeur of Lord Siva – wearer of serpents as ornaments - coming in procession becoming Ocean of mercy watching the splendor of great devotees performing nicely the exposition of the songs of the names Lord hari with sweet musical notes in exquisite ragas , and becoming ever-vigilant for protection of all virtuous people quickly , proclaiming that ‘I am the Thyagaraja who bestows wishes attainable even for brahma and others? The Lord with his white and captivating form, bedecked
with jewels and rich flower garlands, is seated in an orna*
men ted palanquin, with royal parapherfialia, carried by men
of celestial bearing and with praises being sung by real
devotees.
At every stage he is being offered suitable naivedyam
and countless services by devotees. .
He looks out for his devotees who practice always with
great pleasure Japa and Tapas, and lovingly promises
fulfilment of their desires. .

Seeing this glory, BhAgavatas sing Hari-nama-kirtana
excellently and with sweet notes and the elaboration of
varied RAgas. The Lord is coming out wide awake to
protect in time all good men and grant their boons; pro¬
claiming himself as being identical with TyAgarAja.

River Kaveri the prop for all living beings is paying obeisance to Ranganadha at Srirangam by washing his sacred feet and is proceeding majestically to see the holy Panchanadipuram the abode of Siva the protector of the fourteen lokas.

Realising that these people (of the Earth), vexed with darkness, are looking forward for his arrival, for discharge of all their duties,
the Sun becoming worried in his mind that it will take time for him to come out openly,
in order to bring joy to the people in the pre-dawn hours of the morning,
did he not, compassionately and very quickly, send aruNa (as a harbinger)?

Realising that, without water, pious people are looking forward for her arrival,
river kAvEri, becoming worried that it will take time for her to come,
in order to bring happiness to all these people (by assuring) that she would certainly come,
did she not, by sending the Western breeze, make (river bed) water springs to well-up (as a harbinger)?

Unable to bear the torments of that conceited rAvaNa,
when vibhIshaNa called out to You ‘Salutations, O Refuge of all the Worlds!’,
You, being dispassionate, declaring that 'I shall always protect (without discrimination as friend and foe'),
asked all-knower, lakshmaNa to confer sovereign overlorship of lankA on vibhIshaNa.

O Father of Subrahmanya , who is the commander of the army of the gods ! O Blue - throated one ! O One who nurtures people who serve you !

One wearing sacred ash as an adornment ! Pleased with his devotion, you therefore gave a powerful, wonderful body to Hanuman , who praises Bhava holding a small drum .

भानुकोटि-संकाश महेश धेनुकासुर-मारक-वाहन |
bhānukōṭi-saṁkāśa mahēśa dhēnukāsura-māraka-vāhana |
O One whose appearance is like countless suns in splendour ! O Great Lord ! O One whose vehicle is Vishnu, the slayer of the demon Dhenuka !

In what was a fairly long life by the standards of the time, Tyagaraja rarely stirred out of his native Thiruvaiyaru. If you go by his ‘Koti Nadulu’ (Todi), all pilgrimages were a waste of time, for all the holy waters of the world were available at the tip of Rama’s bow. The tiny Thiruvaiyaru therefore provided most of the inspiration required for his compositions.

It may get its name from the five rivers that are in its vicinity, but Thiruvaiyaru’s eco-system was obviously structured around the Kaveri, on whose northern bank it stands

. As per his ‘Sari Vedalina’ (Asaveri), the Kaveri ‘moved rapidly at one place, roared fearfully at another and remained still with full grace at a third.’ He notes in the same song the annual arrival of fresh water, when the locals worship the river with lotuses.

The importance of the water to the place is underscored in his
‘Ennado Rakshincite’ (Saurashtram), where he says that to assure the locals, who, feeling the want of water look eagerly along the river bed, the Kaveri sends in advance western winds and starts natural springs. Today that is rendered meaningless given the river is bone dry for most of the year but in Tyagaraja’s time it must have been a sight for sore eyes.

Even now, it is possible to conjure up that beauty as you enter the village from south. Arrayed to your right are a series of stunningly beautiful pavilions, the most striking being the Pushya Mandapam and the Kalyana Mahal. Walking down the steps to the dry river bed, your attention is caught by a tiny but exquisite icon of a dancing Ganapathi let into a wall of the Pushya Mandapam. Was this the inspiration for ‘Sri Ganapathini’ (Saurashtram), you wonder. Tyagaraja waxed eloquent on the beauty of this view in his ‘Muripemu galigegada’ (Mukhari), singing of the wonderful Panchanada Kshetra ‘in the Chola country…on the bank of the Kaveri, over which blows the incomparable zephyr and which is studded with palatial and beautiful buildings where Brahmans worship, perform homas and chant Vedas.’

Tyagaraja clearly did not lay much store by visits to temples. In his Darshanamu Seya (Narayana Gaula), he makes fun of the behaviour of the standard temple-goer – seeing the gopuras, the massive pillars, the stone idols, the dancing girls, the rows of lights, the beautiful processional mounts, making 16 circumambulations – the mind focused eternally on external delights, including slandering others and ogling at the women who are visiting! It is no wonder then that he did not go to many shrines.

But what he clearly delighted in were temple processions. There are several songs of his that record his impressions of these events. Perhaps the most detailed among these is Muccata Brahmadulaku Dorakuna (Madhyamavati). This song recreates the atmosphere of the Saptasthanam festival of Thiruvaiyaru, an annual event that Tyagaraja participated in all his life. It takes place in April and involves Siva Panchanadeesa/Aiyarappar leaving in a palanquin for the shrines at Thirupazhanam, Thriuchotrutturai, Thiruvedikudi, Thirukandiyur, Thirpoonthuruthi and Thiruneithanam. As the procession moves through each of the villages, the presiding deity of the respective shrine joins Siva Panchanadeesa and by the time Thiruneithanam is reached, there will be seven palanquins, each bearing a deity. The entire proceeding takes as long as 24 hours.

If this song describes Siva on the move, Vidhishakradulaku (Yamunakalyani) is on Goddess Dharmasamvardhini of Thiruvaiyyaru on a Friday evening. In its detailing of the attendant women raising cries of victory, of the Gods hastening to prostrate, the celestial dancers performing, Tyagaraja creates a royal court. And his Goddess is like a queen – watching the goings on out of the corner of her eye, she, with her necklaces swaying, indulges in a private conversation with Mahalakshmi! Two of his songs on Kovur Sundareswara (Kori Sevimparare in Kharaharapriya and Sundareswaruni Juci in Shankarabharanam) describe the Lord similarly holding court..

Pranatharthikaran also Known as Aiyarappan, Panchanadeeswarar, Chemporchodhinathar, is the presiding deity of the temple at Tiruvaiyaru,a place in the midst of five rivers in Thanjavur Dist,Taminadu.Legend goes that the Lord worshipped Himself at this great abode.
Savaite saint Appar had the kailasha dharshan at this abode. Hence, it is also called daxiNa kailAsham.

Mysore VaasudEvaacaarya - (1865-1961)had his intial musical training fromVeena Padmanabhayya of Mysore,
but his musical lineage can be traced to Saint Tyagaraja through Manambuchavadi Venkatasubbayyar
and Patnam Subramania Iyer
.He was appointed astaana vidwan at the royal court in Mysore.Towards the end of his life, he was invited by Rukmini Arundale to teach at Kalakshetra He has more than 200 compositions and published 150 himself, .
