April 01st was a working day.IT was one of the days I was not sure if there will be a concert listed. When i opened the hindu i found a concert of TNS Krishna . Started on time but with metro digging only reached from the third number . I asked TNSK at the end the first one and some one next to me said the second number is shakthi ganapathim
As i sat down in this pristing sringeri temple , ananda bhairavi came out beautifully . Personally my mind raced to one NGS sabha crt where TNS Sir once sang a great sadbhakthiyu of poochi . TNSK gives a lot of carnatic intensity , every where he is singing like his father . This does not mean he can be dismissed , all it matters is how intensely carnatic and he is surely in the zone always .
In 1992 when maharajapuram santhanam passed for atleast 8 years i was disappointed with both ramachandran and srinivasan . But one realizes the mistake as at times ramachandran is singing even more better ,atleast few songs in a concert than the super nova santhanam (like say maharajapuram ramachandran singing hiranmayeem in lalitha) . For me for sure ,i get the same glimpses where the to be soon legend TNSK is singing and at times better than TNS , the legend.
With a very brilliant MD krithi in anandabhairavi ,ranjani came out so well with alapana .THe lines in kannada language were in a beautiful ragam ranjani . It was new and i also came to know that the krithi is of ambujam krishna as i asked TNSK. May be TNS sir tuned this particular ambujam krishna krithi, i know few numbers of ambujam krishna were tuned by TNS Sir
Two stalwarts in 1990s for sure TNS and TVS have a fairly unique approach of dropping slokhams/viruththam between alapana and krithi .The hindolam drop of slokham was mesemerizing and the krithi in hindolam was a cub musically as great as his tiger father. TNSK gives very long high powered sancharas and I see that will turn out very special in years to come
Kalyani is a difficult raga to impress me . TNSK did well in alapana . In amma ravamma konjam there was a rush and there is at times a feeling that he is not able to hold enough saliva and with that at times the ideas do not have that continued intensity. The main Krithi amma ravamma was well rendered, niraval was not to TNS -TNSK standards , possibly he kept an eye on watch. Swaras were well done for most part
Viruththam was fantastic and i know for sure TNS tuned thedi unnai . Bharathiyar drop was indeed musically apt for a very small count of rasikas .
Mysore Srikanth had great azhuttam . The mrudangist BS Prashanth was excellent , his left right combo was in the zone of undrained Guru Patri (Battery). We have few great students of patri all coming up very well and prashant did up the quality of the concert. All said keep an eye on this great vidwan TNS Krishna who has to perhaps market himself more. His music is extremely appealing
Overall a very good to excellent concert for 2 hours
