Saraswathi vaggeyakkara trust was patronized and started by Late NV Subramaniam . Glad that they teamed with kedaram and booked the ragasudha hall conducted a 3 to 5 day festival in the dry month of February. This trust goes deepeer and focusses on lot of thematic concerts . The theme does not end with a compromise of music but has time and again over few decades only enhanced the classicism of music. The theme being all thamizh did impress me both before and after the concert

Suryaprakash started with a deep viruththam kannanE, the divyaprabhandam are indeed treasures and when they meet the janaranjakamana mohanam it came out very well. A rare Taaana varnam by tiger with the words aalilai mEl was wonderful with a really great support by the team kalai kattufied the concert

Saranga was the #2 more than the krithi i liked the swaras of saranga. When saranga is dropped early i am atleast conditioned to think that Kalyani may not come as main, though once vidushi raji Gopalakrishnan both . What a lovely composition is ini oru kanam , papanasam sivan anchored with such lovely words especially in anupallavi where the lift of sahithyam in words thaniperumai ...shyamalanE brings so much of lovely sreeranjani oomph, i wish he had also sang the swaras but it was a krithi only drop

The submain went to the weighty ragam begada .CLinical ragam with a nice neraval was the best piece of begada krithi. THe best of best was the next two that followed . Swarajathis are the deep explorations of any vaggeyakkaras . Shyama sastri did start it and the Tanjore Ponniah pillai have given swarajathis where many vidwans and vidushis have sang . Even great vidwans and vidushis who became exemplary vaggeyakkaras like GNB, TMT, TRS and Lalgudis have not ventured in composing swarajathis . Suryaprakash composing this reetigowlai and one more in sahana very recently is likely to be the best of his composition legacies that will stand far ahead of time . What a joy is sahithyam meeting music where composers have to cautiously choose the right words to have some kind of arithmetic progression of musical ideas to slowly build up and peak the raga rasa bhava. Also he adding lot of swaraksharas with the theme of muruga gave a lot of reetigowlai ecstasy , distilled ideas of tatvamaria, dwaitamu , raaga ratnamalichake all rolled was this kandA endan swarajathi in reetigowlai

06. oruthi maganAI (S) - behag - Tiruppavai
swaras for 5 mins

07A. ennAramum oru KAlai thooki (R S T) - tOdi - marimutha pillai
16 mins alapana and 7 mins violin return
10 mins swaras
07B. tani for 11 mins

08. chinnan jiru kiliyE - kAPi + Maand + Vasanta + Tilang?? + neelamani - bharathiyAr
09A. viriththam - kunram eRindhadhum - sindhubhairavi + rAkEshri - tirumuragaatru padai
09B. ninaikAdha neramillai - rAkeshri -kavignar vaali (popularized by madurai somu)
10. vaazhiya senthamizh - madhyamavati - bharathiyAr

Behag tiruppavai being taken as fast filler with long swara patterns like say ora jupu, sarasa sama is quite unheard .I particularly like the nice build up of swaras without fragmented violin returns in behag . Todi is the main and the raga alapana had quite a bit of GNB sharp brigha pidis . I was thinking will that be taaye Yashoda or Karthikeya but a rare marimutha pillai ennaremum came out well .

In the tukkadas chinnanjiru was far more janaranjaka ,particularly the last few lines in neelamani unkannil neer vazhinthal was lovely . In the somu popularized ninaikadha neramillai , one has to give to a modern composer vaali who wrote great lyrics . I am wondering who tuned this ninaikadha neramillai , could that be somu or may be TRS or TMT or some one whom I am yet to know. The preceding tirumurgaatrupadai viruththam in sindhu bhairavi and rakeshri came out well

Kumbakonam M R Gopinath bit musically resembled like the legend M Chandrasekaran with nice fingering display with nalla azhuttam .He had good responsive speed then last time that i heard . Mannargudi Eswaran is slowly turning out to be a naadabadran nice taps with very good nadham , he saves energy so well and he rotated very well with nerkunam shankar. HE thinks mostly in the fly and takes his time to give a nice and unique patterns throughout the course of songs , no anavsiya theermaanam.

All said thamizh compositions indeed gives a great feel of intense classicism and with a great varied choices of vaggeyakkaras it was a lovely experience from the earliest marimutha pillai to the singer himself. Tx to Saraswathi vaggeyakara trust , i did see Tanjore murugabhoopathi who just introduced artists and possibly NVS son vidwan V shankaranarayanan was doing all the back end work . Kudos to also kedaram seceratary who arranged with Saraswathi vaggeyakkara trust of course many thanks to ragasudha hall and naada inbam who made it possible. Classical Carnatic music kutcheri paddhati concerts are slowly getting more rare , this was a great one

Suryaprakash could have possibly sang a more janaranjakamana main like taaaye Yashoda or Karthikeya instead of enneramum that too after singing quite a rare begada of Ramaswamy sivan. The best combo is the sequence of vilambit swarajathi followed by saravalaghu tiruppavai. I would have been more happy with an organic musically elaborate neraval in some line in reetigowlai swarajathi just like how semmangudi once sang shyamakrishna sodhari in bhairavi where he went on record to say that he sang a neraval as there was more raga bhavam there, that day ssi singing neraval for bhairavi swarajathi was a first of its kind

Overall an excellent concert for 2 hours and 20 mins
