G Ravikiran , a student trained RK Shrikantan and bit later TM krishna has certainly a great anchor on sampradaya music . IF there is some thing that was missing in this concert was little more creative quotient especially in swaras and neravals . possibly the tani was long too as one main reason
The start was well done , i adore this Janaki ramana with sudda seemanthini. Certain kalaikattufying comes instantly with these kind of drops . Two choices had a lot of musical raga overlap one in ragam kannada and the other in devagandhari was more a tuition that he could have possibly kept to any of his students . The kannada was just beginning to be impactful but it ended . THe namorala is all musiri-semmmangudi typecast , a brilliant ragam indeed is devagandhari for its usual refusal to go fast . He indeed did well in alapana and krithi , certainly the overlap of kannada and devagandhari in succession could have been avoided
Caayataringini kripajutaku was a swara less fast filler not suiting my expectation and he headed towards kiravani. As the alapana was on , i dont know what went inside my head i was rooting with so many T krithis already done , will he head to few of my NOn trinity Keeravani favorites - i was thinking may be he does not know innamum sandeha padalama it can be a punniyam oru koti or tatvam jeevatmam. At that time i was thinking TMK and SSI have sung wonderfully tatvam jeevatmam , once TMK sang so well in SKGS . But he went to flagship Keeravani drop of kaligiyuNTe , he indeed sang very well the krithi and also the neraval. In the swaras there was a bit of rationing
IN the tukkadas Yamuna Kalyani tunga teera was melodic and meditative . THis nottuswaras (assuming from MD) was a quick pass , was that mohanam or suddasaveri or shankarabharanam
L Ramakrishnan is turning out to be like a V V Subramaniam of today . Nalla azhuttam , no overdrive mode ever during song sequence but plays so well with the flow of vocalist . L Ramakrishnan certainly gives the right alapana return where there is a secret handshake of minutes proportion between him and vocalist . All said he is pracheena vidwan.
I had my apprehensions of Tiruvarur bhaktavatsalam as the hall is too small for his usual mruduangam exuberance .Some patterns during course of song was simply superb and he gave a right drive to the song. His tani was certainly too long for a 2 hour concert, that is the price every one pays for a super senior artist who has coveted award. Guruprasad was lovely he obeyed orders of his captain and he kept up the same flow of bhaktha sir and did not robe the flow of the concert.
Overall a very good to excellent concert for 2 exact hours
