PERAMBUR SANGEETHA SABHA – 90 YEARS’ SOUVENIR – APPEAL FOR ADVERTISEMENT AND SPONSORSHIP SUPPORT
Warm Greetings from Perambur Sangeetha Sabha!

Perambur Sangeetha Sabha (PSS) was established in the year 1931, with the primary objective of fostering the development Indian Fine Arts and Culture, in general and Carnatic Music, in particular. It is one of the oldest sabhas in Chennai and a prominent sabha serving the vast North Chennai area and its suburbs.
PSS hosts concerts on a regular basis. Every year, A series of programmes alre held.

2. Chithirai isai vizha since 2007
3. Margazhi isai vizha to commemorate various vaakeyaras apart from the Trinity

We are very proud and feel delighted to record that we had the Silver Jubilee Celebrations in the year 1956 and Golden Jubilee in 1982. Unfortunately we could not celebrate the Platinum Jubilee Year, owing to lack of funds.
Our Sabha was selected as the best Art Institution in the year 2004 by the Government of Tamilnadu and we received the memento.
The Sabha has conducted Talent Promotion Series of selected artists in Vocal and Instrumental Music on behalf of Tamilnadu Iyal, Isai Natakamandram. PSS has instituted the Best Singer award from 2018 and the first Gana Kala Saraswathi” award for the year 2018 was presented to Kum.Amritha Murali during April 2019.


The great Vainika Veenai Karaikudi Sri. Sambasiva Iyer held post of the President of the Sabha between 1950 and 1955 before he moved to Kalashetra. For more than two decades from then onwards, great artists, Super Stars in their fields made a beeline to Perambur Sangeetha Sabha to perform. Undoubtedly this was the Golden Period of the Sabha. Almost all leading artists of yester years have performed enthusiastically in the sabha.

Over the years, PSS has faced several challenges such as lack of sufficient patronage, location disadvantage and demographic limitations in terms of promotion of carnatic music in these locations.
However, we have sustained the challenges and are poised for growth in the coming years.
Some steps planned include engagement with schools and colleges, opening of music school under the aegis of PSS, music competition for students, imparting music free of cost to the less fortunate children in the surroundings.
We, at PSS, will make all efforts to continue delivering high quality Carnatic Music, free of cost to the North Chennai area.


As part of the PSS 90 years’ celebrations, we are planning to bring out a Souvenir to commemorate the occasion. The Souvenir shall be a compendium of PSS’s glorious achievements over the years, interesting events and the great personalities associated with the institution. It is proposed to have print copies and also digital copies to ensure wide distribution.

PSS has active members across the world and hence the Souvenir will have a wide reach.

Well done . Nice to see sabhas releasing souvenir of 90 pages with articles, photos of past artists and also wishes from other sabha patrons. We have seen few bangalore sabhas like sklm doing that , but most sabhas in chennai donot do it . Also hopefully your recent festivals like chitirai etc are hopefully gaining more share of rasikas to visit your sabha

One suggestion, please also include table of contents with page number please in the future. Well done perambur sangeetha sabha, you are in striking distance towards 100 years

What a grand beginning! TMK might even give an old-fashioned format of a concert with able accompanists at this longstanding sabha of merit and endurance.

Good to hear from you and about this thematic concert--that too a performance devoted entirely to Bharathi 's songs which are in traditional rAgAs (we do know that a number of songs of his are sung in lighter rAgAs). Even better, a young artiste like Sunil Gargeyan is taking up a theme like this. Please write about the concert and let us know the songs and the rAgAs they are sung in...!

For 2022, we have selected Bhavya Hari.

The award comprises Saraswathi Ambal Vigraham in silver, Rs,20,000/- and a citation.
