Lakshman-ji: The first word of the anupallavi is mAtava and not mAdhava. mAtava = austere penance, is used as an adjective to qualify the word munivar (ascetics); mAdhava = vishNu - doesn't fit into the context here.

Thanks rshankar for the correction. I often wonder why composers/printers/publishers don't use subscripts for songs written in Tamil scripts. Do they automatically assume that if you can read the language you can understand the context also?

In this case, it usually gets worse - many will actually sing it as mAdava...I hear it very often in the kIravANi kRti of Papanasam Sri Sivan - malayadhvajan mAdavamE, instead of malayadhvajan mAtavmE
