dEshi simhAravam - Dikshitar

Post by SrinathK »

The 58th asampoorNa mEla in the Dikshitar school, it was already recognized by the more popular name of hEmavati back in the time of Dikshitar himself. In the SSP, it is written that hEmavati is another name of this rAgA.

A unique reetigauLa like PNNS at some places differentiates it from the linear sampUrNa hEmavati in the books (however PDNS is in fact more common), and a look at the text of the kriti hariyuvateem also shows a PNDNS phrase. But in modern times, the two rAgAs have long since ceased to be separate and this prayoga has now vanished.

Everything else in this thread on hEmavati : viewtopic.php?t=16911

So getting to the kritis - first up hariyuvateem haimavati - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRfTq4VTBVw - by the late Ranjani Hebbar

And the other kriti of Dikshitar - Sri kAntimateem - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VSPgSqJ-ek - an MS amma special

An SSP version of hari yuvateem (baroque CM is what I call this old style) by Aravindhan Ranganathan - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ho7bDnlrMWM

The rAgA is still quite not so different even now, with the biggest change in the amount of gamakas now possible on the N2.

The old phrases of PND and even PNNS can be heard in the chittaswaram.
