About Mr Denis Petrov:
Denis has been playing a variety of musical instruments since the age 10, when his grandfather taught him to play mandolin. Later he picked up guitar, bass, drums and played in several rock bands. While studying Electrical Engineering at a college in Moscow he received an upright piano as a gift from his parents, and took some lessons. After moving to the United States, he has been mostly playing piano and synthesizers. After being introduced to Indian Carnatic music, he began picking up tunes and rhythms, and has been accompanying Vijaya Krishnamurthy (Veena vidushi based in New York City) on electronic tabla. Denis works as a software engineer in Manhattan. He spends his spare time on tinkering with electronics and analog audio, running, cooking and photography.
