Smt Radha Viswanathan is no more...
It is with much sadness that I share this news. I heard through Cienu on FB about this.
--------------------------------
Shrinivasan V
Date : 2nd Jan 2018
Time : 11 50 pm (Indian Standard Time)
The voice which sang "Amani Manadho Manyo Lokaswami Trilokadruth " has now merged with that of her mother
To the gentle strains of "Sriman Narayana" being sung by my daughter S.Aishwarya, my mother Smt Radha Viswanthan shed her mortal coils at the words "Sree Padame Sharanu" after leading a glorious life. What a fantastic lady she was.
She was a fighter right to her end. From the time she fell ill with Tuberculosis Meningitis after the Festival of India in London in April 1982 till her last breath a few hours back , for 36 years , she fought against physical adversities but never ever complained about the pain she suffered. She bore her sufferings with a smile. We have lots and lots to learn from her.
Amma has now joined her dearest mother Bharat Ratna M.S.Subbulakshmi, her father T Sadasivam who dearly adored his daughter, her husband G Viswanathan who loved his wife from the bottom of his heart, her dearest Thangam , loving sister Vijaya whom Amma missed terribly and last but not the least the incomparable Visalam.
As the Venkatesa Suprabatham, Vishnu Sahasranama and Bhaja Govindam play out in millions of temples and homes across the world, the voice of Radha will be heard , inseparable from the voice of her legendary Amma.
In the annals of Carnatic Music, the name of "Radha Viswanathan" will be engraved in letters of Gold. Truly an end of an era.
PS:
The body has been kept for public viewing at "Suswaralukshmi" 29 ROYAL HERMITAGE, Bannerghatta Road, Gottigere, Bengaluru 560083 from 7.am to 3 pm.

Oh, that is very sad news.
Surely Smt. Radha would be in Vaikuntha.
When great and beloved personalities say good bye to us, it wrenches us deeply. It is a personal loss for every lover of Carnatic music.
Sincere Condolences to Cienu and a great family.
They will always keep alive in all of us the memory of the ever great who served the cause of our music incomparably.

Cienu!
We have lost one more link with our past.
My sincere condolences to you and every member of your family! I’m sure your mother will be looking down on all of you, especially her granddaughters, guiding everyone through life as she did before.
I agree that your mother’s voice will stay alive with that of your grandmother’s for as long as the various suprabhAtams, bhaja gOvindam, and vishNu sahasranAmam are played.

A very very sad news indeed. A charming face and a strict follower of her mother on stage, so much so that, her voice is so beautifully synchronized with her mother’s.
Our sincere condolences to Sri Srinivasan and his family. She will be in the midst of great musicians and her parents now enthralling the gods with her music !

Smt Radha Viswanathan, RIP
It is with deep regret that I place on record the passing away of Smt Radha Viswanathan in the early hours of this morning in Bangalore.
The world will not witness the likes of the mutual love and devotion between her and MS Amma in the years to come.

Re: Smt Radha Viswanathan is no more...
I remember her as the adorable child Meera and for a lovely dance number ( dream dance) with Kamala Laxman. Her acting in the scene where she joins the bajan by Rupa Goswami at her home and instantly gets mesmerized by the idol of her Giridhaari, was simply superb. Unforgettable. From early fifties, she accompanied her mother Smt.MS almost in all concerts. and there was natural resonance between the two. There are very few recordings where Radha is not accompanying her mother after 1953. We can as well say MS-Radha concerts. Sad to learn of her passing away. I join the grieving millions of fans worldwide in paying my obeisance to the departed soul. May her soul rest in Peace and Bliss.

Departure is always painful, doubly so for admirers and relatives of a much loved musician like Śrīmatī Rādhā Viśvanāthan.
She has shed her mortal links with the music season still in force and has gone into the beyond taking her music with her.
May the departed ātmā attains sadgati!

As star arundhati following celestial vaSishTA,
Her voice followed her precious mother's
Blending as one--she shadowed but shed light
Her life woven into hers became a tradition
She went on to make more of her music--
Aishwarya and Saundarya made it happen
Ill health did not deter nor immobility
Determination and will were her strength
Brave woman, ready to battle ill health
Valiantly, and with that smiling face!
May she bless the young ones always
With her beloved elders above...

Re: Smt Radha Viswanathan, RIP
Dear Cienu,
Call it irony, or may be not...
Got back from Chennai the day she left us. Went without looking at the forum much (so missed this thread). Didn't see the papers this morning, got busy around the house, ran errands and then rushed to hear NSG at SRLKM (a super concert). When I returned home, my husband gave me the news.
I regretted not being able to bid her farewell. Then I thought, just as well. I can think of my annual visits with her and cherish my memories--her asking the grand kids to sing and play for me, and her chatting vibrantly, however weak she felt.
She was in my thoughts when I heard the girls sing so well at BVB a few days ago...
Heartfelt sympathies to Lakshmi and your brother. To her grand kids who loved visiting and learning from her every day. To you and Geetha who took such good care of her...
Her presence will always be felt, though she has joined the company of her loved ones up above. You have their blessings...

Re: Smt Radha Viswanathan, RIP
Dear Rasikas,
Thank you all so much for your heartfelt condolences. Amma lived a full life and always had a smile on her face inspite of severe health issues.
Most importantly she has ensured that her rich legacy will continue to flourish through her grand daughters S.Aishwarya and S.Saundarya.
Nevertheless she will be profoundly missed though we will continue to cherish her precious memories.

An article in the "Times of India" Jan 4th 2018 by B Shivakumar which was by far the best tribute to Amma.
