Music is healing, pleasing--is therapeutic and can bring joy. No question about it. Just as bananas, apples and other fruits and vegetables and grains of all kinds nourish us.
The question is, how can there be such a specific connection between a major, minor or an unknown rAgA and a list of ailments in their specialized healing capacity?!

Re: Ragas and benefits
Absolutely, music heals us, improves our state of mind and changes our emotional state. The most ardent of materialists could not deny this. Music is good for us!
I share Arasi's doubt about specific music/songs/raga being connected with any particular illness, state of mind or part of the body.
A person may say, it works for them. They may have particular music/raga selections that cause certain reactions. They may have a finely-developed self-awareness to back up that assertion. This is fine, and I suspect that many of us, to a greater or lesser extent do use music in our lives in this way.
I cannot criticise research that I know nothing about, but I have come across research of the "works for me and a couple of friends have said, oh, yeah... I see what you mean" kind. Maybe, yes, that is some sort of enquiry, but it is not research. Research takes dozens, if not hundreds, of controlled experiments. I doubt very much that anyone, in this field, has really done that, or gone beyond anecdotal evidence.
It can't do any harm. But claiming it as fact is a little dubious.

Thank god. I have heard Srikantimatim in Hemavati 5 times sung by men and women and played on instruments, in last 2 weeks. Now that I know my niggling back pain will be alleviated, I am already feeling better! (last couple of minutes).Hemavati:
Good for joint and back pain

This seems to be conventional or hearsay pass-on message.
Smt Sudha R mentioned she was doing research. I do not know where it stands.

Whatever the ragas may achieve, I think salt does increase BP, so go easy! Although there are some ragas for that also.

For every raga there is surely a side effect but for that also there is another raga
Eating less salt leads to weakened bones which may lead to joint pain , so I guess listening to rohini ragam will help.

Lest excessive worry about Rohini cause dyspepsia, I give what Smt Pattammal's book Ragapravagam says:
Janya of Sooryakanta (17th Melakarta)
Rohini S R G M M D N S S N D M M G R S
(Both sudda & Prati Madyama)

Really???? Where's your evidence for this? What I know is to the contrary - high salt intake leads to increased calcium loss in the urine, which could lead to osteoporosis....rajeshnat wrote:Eating less salt leads to weakened bones which may lead to joint pain

Ravi and others apologies - I just countered narayan just like that .
Ravi,
By any chance when you eat less salt, by some circuitous route something will go wrong with bones which ravi knows and I dont know yet . If ravi answers that , then I will ask them to hear Rohini

"Take it 'without' a pinch of salt!", the doc says, and I will listen to him. On the other hand, if he says 'go off chocolate!', I do have a problem
Anyhow, the unknown rAgA rOhiNi is gaining 'star' status in this thread. Any samples, anyone?

Rajesh! No such luck... Less salt may actually do one good - and not just from the BP pov...
Arasi - chocolates are the best mood enhancers this side of psychiatric medications I know of! So, you'll get no such advice from me....

So it is a treatment for moorcha rOgam? http://lupushomeremedy.com/tag/neuro-sc ... cha-rogam/
Tamilians might spell it as rOgini!
Anyway the dwimadyama ( which is a swaraksharam at the start of the kriti mAmava lOla) parallels sa-ri relation. if sa has it's pratimadyama , the M1 has its own in N3
