Kiran Seth, the author of this piece should be severely chastized for referring to DKP as 'the late Carnatic Vocalist D. K. Pattammal' - these idiots need to check their facts first - 'chAlIs sAl thak inko publish nahIn karnA dEnA - tAki yEh apnE statements kO acchI tarah confirm karnA sIkh sakE' - and the editor who was sleeping needs more than just a SLAP on the wrist...

It could be a mere generalization, given that Hindustani is more well known. When we can generalize all north indians as "these northies" and get away with it, it doesnt take long to figure out that they too can be forgiven for the same offense, I hope.jayaram wrote:I am always amused when these 'northies' refer to Hindustani as 'Indian' music!

Pray, where in the article is hindustani music referred to as Indian music? The only point in the article where the term Indian music is used is:
"Indian classical musicians now reduce the alaap portion and quickly come to the composition ..."
An alaap(or alapana) is definitely an Indian music concept without being specific to the Hindustani or Carnatic genre. I think more than a case of ignorance or arrogance on the part of the writer, this is a case of paranoia on the part of the reader.
