The Malladi Brothers are giving 22 concerts during their tour of North America.

The tup-tup artist is giving 6 concerts.

Even accounting for one extra ticket in the case of the Malladis, one would think that they would need to give only 12 concerts unless of course their honorarium is so much higher than what is being paid to the tup-tup artist.

Somehow, I don't think that is the case.

Which leads one to conclude that one of the two tours is being used to subsidise the other!

PS. I am glad CML is taking a hiatus; he would delete this post (as he has done in the past) on the basis that it is discussing the personal finances of artists -- as if I am disclosing the tax returns of musicians here!

PPS. I don't expect nor need a reply from the organisers. I realise they are answerable only to the IRS (Internal Revenue Service, the income tax arm of the US Government)! However wild speculations are oh-so delicious!

Harimau,
'tup tup' is a word also used in tamizh for the sound of a fire arm. In this firing range, CML is not spared either :) Many of us miss his presence, particularly in the Literature wing. Spare him, please.

My only comment to the organizers is, though they didn't mean it, the way the three individual photographs were put together makes it look as if the co-artistes are sitting on a straight-drawn line to represent equality (?)-- as in the concerts of another star :)

It appears that in the U.S. the Andhra people audience involvement is much more

Harimau,
Your post indeed gave me a new insight which i was not aware of ,other things i leave it to others. You may be just right. Back end networking is key.

mmani,
On a general side note, I notice artists in US generally give a concert once in two or three years where the typical clubbing of VUSA coupons are on going for 12 weeks .It looks there was once a time in 1980's to say 2005 where we have had artists having 20 to 30 concerts , some even had close to 35 to 40 concerts . That era is slowly moving out. Malladis having this count is simply a magical number in today's situation .In particular i am noticing sanjay is making a 6 to 8 concert- 3 week stay in the last few years and there is a bit of cherry picking too in cities too , i recollect his last tour of us cities with possibly bay area only being a common stop. Sanjay particularly standardizes with his two accompanists who are in the top 1 to 5% quality league . Year on Year 6 pack- 3 week tour is better than once every two or three years a 20 city tour is what i genuinely deduct. That also prevents a long term burn as the travel can hit their health.

I see atleast three more artists having a tour and i will leave it to those artists and acquaintances to post their schedules. I am sure for those in US it is joy to only hear artists of great repute .

All said best wishes to every one of them malladi brothers, sanjay Subrahmanyan and another 5 more which i just saw in web .

Harimau, First of all, an unsolicited advice: let go of any grudges due to any past moderating activity. It is not worth it.
However wild speculations are oh-so delicious!
May be for you. But not for a few others who are complaining that you are making off topic comments and saying things that are not true and which amount to smearing of parties involved. And it is not delicious for me because I have to act on such things including writing these sentences here :)

Of course, your immediate reaction may be to slam them and ask them to explain things and engage you in a public debate. That is not going to happen. My responsibility here is to just communicate that publicly rather than taking any moderating activity.

Rajesh,
Every tour we do depends on various factors - artist's availability and schedule, the hosting sabha's schedule, and our own schedule and time availability are all primary ones. And every year, we do one or two tours that go 20+ locations. So Vidwan Malladi tour being 20+ is not unique.

We will post the schedule for other artists this year before their tour starts.
