Hi guys,

First off - I'm a new member here (though cmlover and a few others might know me from another forum). I just came across this site and I'm pretty impressed!

Anyway. I don't know about you guys, but having lived in the US nearly all my life, I find it very hard to locate carnatic or hindustani concerts that take place around my area. I'm currently in DC, but I've lived in many other cities as well, and that's pretty much the case for the US as a whole. The information about kutcheris is...fragmented, for lack of a better word. I have to go to individual cultural organizations' websites for more info, or scan through numerous flyers posted on temple boards etc. That basically means I tend to miss out on most concerts, since I don't go to temples very often and often forget to go through numerous different websites. For instance, about 3 weeks back, I randomly went to the Siva-Vishnu temple in Maryland and guess what? T.N. Krishnan had been playing for an hour already! Boy, though it was a pleasant surprise, I wasn't too happy that I had nearly missed out on hearing one of my favorite artistes!

I'm not sure about the site's policies on advertising a site, but...I'll take my chances, since this is for the benefit of everyone.

I just launched a site called Carnatix.com. Users will be able to see all the carnatic/hindustani events that are taking place in their city in the near future. The site is in its infancy, and I'm still working on adding events to the site, so if it looks too "bare" to you...I hope you understand. :-) And it's designed to look very simple (bland?) for a reason - I hate fishing for information and the site makes it very easy to find out when and where a concert is.

Please let me know what you think! Any comment will be greatly appreciated. If you'd like your city to be added to the site, feel free to email me (admin [at] carnatix [dot] com). Also, if you are aware of any upcoming concerts in your city, please let me know, so that I can update the site accordingly.

Thanks for your time, folks. I look forward to being a part of this community. :-)

Thanks for your kind words, guys.

Just to clarify - this site is for NRIs based in the US, UK, Australia, Singapore etc. I'm hoping it would be of service to them.

"carnatix.com - your guide to bliss"
nice touch, coolian! here's wishing all the best for the site.

a tip: you could request your site to be linked to the various music organizers' sites in the different countries. e.g. carnatic music circle in Melbourne, Oz.

Thanks, jayaram.

Good idea about being linked to music organizations' sites. Once I get enough data in, I'll go about doing that.
