Nice to see that at least 4 of the 17 (just under 25%) bharatanatyam (solo/duet) performers are from the US - Smt. Malini Srinivasan (Umesh is a member of her critically acclaimed group), Smt. Ramya Ramnarayan, Ms. Anwesha Das, and Ms. Mythili Prakash...

Ravi, nice observation- make that over a quarter! Vidhya Subramanian is based in California, and Aparna Ramaswamy (d/o Ranee) runs Ragamala dance company out Minneapolis. Also, Pavithra Srinivasan was once in the Northeast, not sure if she still is.

Great news for these hard-working ambassadors of the art.

That is great - 6 or 7 out of 17 (35 to 40%) of the bharatanATyam dancers are from the US - speaks for the hard work by these bharatanATyam dancers outside India, and also how healthy the dance form is. I wonder if the same situation is prevalent in the other classical dance forms like oDissi and kathak....
