I bow to the sheeple
Abhishek Raghuram gets the Best Concert award for Seniors, trumping the other favorite of sheeple, namely, Sanjay Subramaniam.
Will the sheeple be happy or sad?
Sandeep Narayanan gets the Best Concert award for sub-seniors.
Subhiksha Rangarajan gets the Best Concert award for Juniors.

Re: I bow to the sheeple
It is quite intriguing..Unable to neither understand nor appreciate..
What is the criteria in the selection?
How Abisheik born in 1985 can be categorized in senior Artists group ..
When he was 8 years old, sanjay has performed in Music Acadamy....
See the report..

Leave alone Sanjay..There are many other seniors over him..DR.Pantulu Rama, Gayathri Girish, Ranjani Gayathri, TM Krishna, Neela RamGopal, Malladi Brothers,Hyderabad Brothers...to name some of the few...
who render concerts better than Abishek....
There is no transparency in selection...

Best Concert -> Yogam Santhanam award?
Anyway as with Awards and titles - it is in the eye of the beholder(s). Enjoy the music of your favorite musician(s) and let the awards be awarded.....

gardabha_gana..
Thanks you ...so much..I always do what you say..listen to the best of music....only one concert of the blue eyed boy I heard.. That is because ,He rendered it at the alter of Saibaba..view it here..
http://www.rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=16307
the last post..where he makes lot of gimmickry.
Do you really want to know what is Sheeple...wiki says
" is a term that highlights the herd behavior of people by likening them to sheep, a herd animal.
The term is used to describe those who voluntarily acquiesce to a suggestion without critical analysis or research. .."

Venkatakailasam already provided the wiki answer. Here is the link.gardabha_gana wrote:btw - what is sheeple - harimau?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheeple
"Sheeple (a portmanteau of "sheep" and "people") is a term that highlights the herd behavior of people by likening them to sheep, a herd animal. The term is used to describe those who voluntarily acquiesce to a suggestion without critical analysis or research. "
But it is most commonly used by one partisan against other partisans or used by people with self-proclaimed ( and sometimes delusional ) refined tastes against the general population to which they can not relate. We have all been there on either side, I am sure. For example, an audiophile can call some one buying a Sony a Sheeple. There is another kind of Sheeple where someone who does not have refined tastes want to belong to people who do and so they walk the walk and talk the talk of those people.
Sheeple isn't bad, in many cases, I see them to be non-judgemental and happy in general.

Re: I bow to the sheeple
This is what I heard in senior category
Abhishek Raghuram- Yogam nagaswamy
Sikkil Gurucharan - outstanding vocalist
Ranjani gayatri - outstanding vocalist
Best Vocal Team concert - Savita Narasimhan and team
Best violinist - I think nagai sriram
Best mrudagist - I think K Arun prakash
Few can raise eyebrows to some or many of you, but best wishes to all of the artists . I dont know about sub senior and junior slots . I was Told Bharath sundar and RK Murthy also got something. If there are corrections some one who went to sadas can point out .

Re: I bow to the sheeple
Venkatakailasam Sir
After reading your 3rd post ,I would humbly suggest you to Please take bit more time to understand awards. Abhishek is singing in senior slot , if there is merit they should give it . Period . If age is a criteria even TNS or TVS or OST dont qualify as this year 90+ year old RK Shrikantan sang a morning slot
. I was educated 2 years back that for senior artist even morning slot artists are considered - that was when Neyveli santhanagopalan got the yogam nagaswamy award 2 or 3 years back. Abhishek , even though I have not heard in the academy - i heard him only once in vanimahal - has abundant vidwat and stuff , he deserves for sure.Period .I have my eyebrows raised for few others based on what i heard with few people who attended few of those concerts in academy- but will keep it to myself . As gg beautifully said awards are awarded.
Congrats to all those musicians who received awards and also those who could not make it.

Re: I bow to the sheeple
I know knowledgeable, experienced rasikas who like Abishek. I don't think his music could be described as any sort of easy-listening, which, for me, is what the sheeple seek, even if they do like to have a firework-display effect thrown in here and there.
It's well known that I think he should take the kanjira off the shelf again.

I remember having read a news item in the 80s when a computer was used as an experiment to find the most suitable partner . With lots of data filled in .some said it was an innovative method to judge talent
One hapless guy , after filling out all his expectations , had received this answer - Marry a Penguin :-@

I'm hoping more details are released about what exactly this software did…shankarabharanam wrote:http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city ... 253613.cms

If all the software did was add up the judges scores - or something more complex, but still just mechanical - then I don't see what the big deal about it is (gee, they used a fancy calculator). But, if it tried to actually "judge" by employing some kind of intelligence, then I have to say that this looks like a brain-dead, a**-backward idea. If the MA folks fell for someone selling them this software, then I have a bridge to sell them…

that is what it seems to be based on this quote from that article
"Pappu Venugopala Rao, Madras Music Academy secretary, said the judges' marks and other information were fed into the software developed by the academy which declared the winners"
But there is still some uncertainty there, so it will be good to know what the software did.

What does the vocal team concert award look at awarding? Is it looking at the ensemble's (vocal+violin+percussion) overall performance / effort?
Congratulations to all the awardees.

"the judges' marks and other information were fed into the software developed by the academy"
The marks and other information were decided by humans, then. The software could have have been something as simple as a spreadsheet or simple database.
"Uses software to judge winners" is just TOI Bull____.
Very happy to hear of award to Arunprakash. Possibly the most sensitive and musical mridangist. There are very few who can play like thunder but who are also able and happy to play like gentle raindrops.

Exactly all we need is say 10 attributes with ten point each ,and an average sum calculation . May be it is just excel . On a side note this is the first version of their software they may have bugs - not sure though. I remember my first program where few undeclared variables not assigned to zero initially will get assigned random values during runtime but when you are in debug mode it works.

I go to carnatic concerts most of the year to wash away all my software sins, now they come towards that. :-@
Kudos to academy - imagining sorting 42 contenders to give three or four awards in senior category atleast needs one simple grid view to see the scores.

Agreed. Arunprakash is a fresh breath of air among the cacophony of mrudangists today.Nick H wrote: Very happy to hear of award to Arunprakash. Possibly the most sensitive and musical mridangist. Today mrudangam accompaniment has become a high decibel exercise. Somehow most of the mrudangists have come to a conclusion that they have to keep playing (hitting ??) non stop from start to end. No punctuations, no silence , no modulation. The stroke arai chaapu is almost dead. Except very few, all mrudangists have collectively buried this beautiful stroke.
Arukprakash stands out from others. His accompaniment during kritis is very sensuous while he reserves all intricacies for the thani.
Very good choice.

Re: I bow to the sheeple
This year the message is quite evident from the music academy-There is a heavy encouragement for youths to get even senior awards at the cost of not even considering a longer list of more established senior artists .It started from the point of sangeetha kalanidhi when it was rewarded comparably to a youngster. I am not for age at all as a parameter.
