Re: Sixth Anniversary Celebration of Veenavaadhini
Thanks Ravi!
The programme went off very well, with many musicians and music-lovers gracing the audience.
The evening's concert by Sri. Santosh Jayaram and Sri. Ramkumar, was an excellent one. Santosh kept the audience riveted to their seats with his pleasing Alapanas and brilliant Swaras. The accompaniment and Tani were both excellent. Sri TT Narendran, in the chief guest address, lauded the concert highly. He also said that about 75 years ago, Sri Ananthakrishna Ayyar , who moved to Calcutta and started the Guruguha Gana Vidyalaya , was a one-man university, and his son and daughter (Sri Anantarama Bhagavathar and Smt Champakavalli) , and now his grandchildren have carried on his work admirably. He said that the Guruguha Gana Vidyalaya was a treasure-house of Muthuswami Dikshitar Kritis. He appreciated the Vainika couple for carrying on their Guru's work (in Chennai) , including taking junior students of their Guru , such as Santosh, under their wing.
The list of songs played :
1. Saveri varnam
2. Ekadantam - Bilahari (S)
3. Sri Satyanarayanam - Shivapantuvarali (R, S)
4. Rajarajaradhite - Niroshta (Muthiah Bhagavatar's)
5. Pakkala nilapadi -Kharaharapriya (R, Tanam, S, Tani)
6. Ranjani Mrdu Pankaka lochani - Ragamalika
7. Tillana - Brindavana Saranga

Re: Sixth Anniversary Celebration of Veenavaadhini
Rajani,
As low-key and soft-spoken as J&J seem to be, they are a dynamic duo. This annual celebration is proof of that. Prof. Narendran would given a good speech, and the youngster and our Ram would have given their best in their performance.
Ram is playing a lot, accompanies juniors too, and for this busy young man, they also serve as practice sessions. His work commitments are many, and it's something to see him go from one sabha to the other, and then speed to be at a meeting!
AnusaraNai is his middle name...
