Lyrics and translation - Kalika Stuti

Post by ruthmaria »

Hi everyone!

I am asking your help with a Kalika Stuti, which is in Sanskrit and I can't understand it myself. I tried to write down the lyrics from the beginning as I understood them but the other half of the song I can't make out at all. Here's what I have so far:

Janani Kalikam
Ya Ratta Bijasini
Bhaningava Bhushini
Chandi
Shiva Duthika
Ashtamatraka
Roopini Tribureshwari
Nava Durga Kriti Tharini
Ghora Roopika
Dvam Bhava Devi
Mayi Muditha

If anyone knows Sanskrit and would be so kind to help, I could send the audio track via e-mail. If you don't want to leave your e-mail publicly on this thread, you can contact me directly by e-mail: [email protected].

I would be most grateful for any help you can give!

Thank you in advance,

Ruth Maria

User aaaaaabbbbbb was so kind to help me with some of the transcription of the lyrics, but I would still need help with the translation from Sanskrit to English.

The song is a Bhajan composed by SrI Saccidananda Ganapati Swamiji and before the Bhajan there is a Shloka sung. The teacher claimed it to be a Stuti - was that a mistake by him or can a Stuti as a dance form consist of a Shloka and a Bhajan?

Right now I have the lyrics for the Bhajan:

Kalikam,Kalikam,Kalitha runda malikam Bhaje Bhaje Bhaje hum Bhaje Bhaje Bhaje hum
Kalikam Kalikam kalita runda malikam bhaje bhaje ham bhaje bhaje bhaje ham

himagirIndrabAlikAm krtamunIdra pAlikAm
Hatanatagha dhulikam layavidhana kelikam

Suravipaksha vyalikam lasadudarachulikam
Jani vinasha mulikam gata vimoha jalikam
Kara dhrtogra sulikam Rudhira ranjitalikam
Asura runda malikam Mahita mantra kelikam

Kaladeva sangatam Kalita pancha krtyakam
Kala kala vallabham Kalasukala vigraham
Ghora ghora rupikam Mara mara nayikam
Amrita bhava nalikam Sacchidananda dAyikAm

If there is anyone who could translate Sanskrit, please help! Also, if you would be willing to listen and help to determine the raga, it would be great. Right now the Shloka part unknown, but the Bhajan might be Hindolam. You can e-mail me at [email protected]

aShTamAtrkA rUpiNI,tripurEShvari
navadurgAkriti DhAriNI,GhOrarUpikA

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, Pratyaksham, the lyrics to the song are the same! But the version I have, is quite different.. plus it has the Viruttam (Shloka) part in the beginning. I would still be very grateful for help with translations!
