The Dhananjayans run an annual camp in VA. Info on previous camps is posted here (I don't think this year's details have been released):

Several other US-based teachers run workshops in the summer with visiting artists from India. These typically aren't residential, so you might want to ask teachers around your area to see if they are planning anything.

thank you very much. i really appreciate it.

I also googled yogaville (that's where the dance camp appears to be) and it took me to
http://www.yogaville.org/affiliates/yog ... s-society/

but only info about 2012 seems to be up. i have emailed to the addresses given in the link you gave me and hope to hear from them soon.

do you have any info about it? my daughter has been learning for the past 10 years and has completed her arangetram and wants to do some advance or intensive learning or workshops especially in the summer even if it is away from home. The Dhananjayans are well known gurus and this appears to be split into general and advanced levels and I see there are various complementary activities in a gurukulam type environment. It sounds very promising.

has anyone been to this camp? the 2012 camp says it is the 24th one so if there are folks who have been to the camp any time in the past 24 years if you could share your experience that would be great. i see the advanced camp comes to about 120$/day (1200$/10 days)for boarding lodging and learning. Are these fees typical? Since that is quite a bit of money (say what you might spend over a period of one year) i would like to know would this be a worthwhile endeavor to pursue? My daughter does love Bharatanatyam and I would send her if I thought it would be a truly positive experience and she came back all excited and enthused and showing off new techniques or improved abhinaya!

We live in Florida and i havent been able to find many opportunities for serious learning post arangetram since teachers appear to be interested in getting to arangetram and not beyond it. Hence this query of workshops or resident camps.

Advice, please!
Again thank you.

I've not been to a dance camp, so I do not know how these typically go or how this one compares to the rest. Maybe others on this board can chime in here. I do know it is a very well-established camp, and from what I've heard, people have come away from it with good experiences. It is costly, but when you are looking for something structured and all-inclusive, you pay a premium. There is another popular dance intensive in Manchester (UK), which I sense is geared towards older performers. It's a bit cheaper, but also a bit shorter I think, and will of course be much more expensive for anyone stateside because of airfare.

Camps are fine for that initial immersion experience. If her interest in dance continuous to become more serious, consider sending her to India to do one-on-one work with a guru.
