I am elated, apt to say sangitha kalanidhi deserved TN Seshagopalan.I would rate him as one musician who must have covered maximum count of krithis + rAgas in lifetime( sheer encycopediac vidwAt).
IF you have interesting anecdotes about this musician share it in the vidwan section,

Greetings everyone...I'm a new comer to this forum & would like to open my 'account' here with a
congratulations to our revered Guru TNS.
I used to post on the old 'Sangeetham' as mrasika - however, I once posted a topic on this very grand master that took a turn that I never expected. I consequently stopped posting. But this great news is enough to draw me in again!
May Mother Saraswathi bless this great artiste in the years to come to scale the mighty heights that he has set in the past.

Thanks Ramakrishnan, i am able to login at last using firefox. I have already contributed my posting on TNS in thepast. I run webpages on him and a group also. I invite the ardent rasikas of TNS to log in to my web pages http://www.geocities.com/rasika_tns and become a member of my yahoogroup rasika_tns. http://yahoogroups.com/group/rasika_tns. I have already sent my post on sangithakalanidhi to sri.ramakrishnan as i was not able to log in due to IE trouble.I thank you all for expressing your appreciation on TNS being made sangithakalanidhi which makes me very glad to see so many sahrdhayas. This news has been long awaited by all his rasikas and I am sure all his rasikas as one man/woman will be the happiest persons without distinction.

My
comments are, the sangitha jalanidhi(ocean of music) is going to be
called sangitha kalanidhi. A nidhi means that in which the treasures
are deposited. in that sense TNS is already a sangitha kalanidhi as
all the tresures of music has already been deposited in him.To give him
the title now is like writing the name of lotus underneath the picture
of it or to point out at the sun and say 'this is the sun!'

This review provides a counterpoint to the gushing adulation for TNS.

There's no denying he is a great musician, but a touch of arrogance and too much briga use do mar his katcheris occasionally.
Having said that, I still remember very fondly a brilliant concert of his in Pittsburgh in the 90's.
I only hope TNS mellows down a bit...

jayaram,
Your comment about brigAs (too many of them) is valid. TNS is a brilliant vocalist no doubt, but the spiritual and 'nAbhi hrud khaNTa rasanA' which his guru practised and taught gets sacrificed sometimes in his gymnastic pursuits.
SVK's review said it very well. He wishes TNS would underplay his vidwat. Underplaying itself is a sign of vidwat. KVN comes to mind...

rajeshnat,
I was fortunate enough to learn from Ramanathapuram Sankara Sivam for a short while. I had great respect for him as a person and as a teacher. No, I have not heard any of his concerts--but have heard plenty of his singing. I would ask him to sing this or that, and he would oblige. I was not one of those serious students but it didn't matter to him. My being laya impaired (to this day) didn't faze him. 'uLLukkuLLe irukkudille?'--you have got it inside you--is what he would say about my gnAnam and tALam--to encourage me, I suppose. With all my limitations, I was still one of his students that he would nurture. To this day, I remember every sangati of the songs I learnt from him. I felt that he respected and appreciated his students for whatever little or great talent he found in them.
Whether a vAtApi gaNapathim or a jAvaLi, his sonorous voice had depth and feeling. In the sixties and seventies, those of us who lived abroad did not travel to India that often. Our meetings were far and few. The very last time I saw him, just a few months before he passed away, he was lucid and surprised me by remembering a song he taught me and when the time came for me to leave, he sang mEru samAna majestically, just for me. Nary another soul in that room! I treasure that moment...
