Smt Alamelu Mani hails from Mumbai. A disciple of her late husband, Sri H A S Mani, she is also a proponent of the Brinda bani. She had the opportunity to learn from the legend, T Brinda, during the doyenne’s annual month-long sojourns at Aruna Sairam’s residence in Mumbai. Yet another significant influence on her music came from none other than Sri Semmangudi Srinivasier, from whom she learnt during her visits to Chennai. A brilliant musician and a committed teacher, she took over as head of the South Indian School of Music and eventually also headed the Shanmukhananda Sabha’s music school. As a firm adherent to the Brinda bani she still preserves the legacy handed down to her with its nuances, silences and finesse intact.

As most of you have attended OLI concerts at this venue before, you must have realised that it is quite small and makes for an intimate listening experience. Therefore we request you to refrain from coming late and leaving before the end of the concert since this is extremely disturbing to other listeners and distracting to the artistes.
