Re: OLI Chamber Concerts - Mysore Darbar
This does look like it is going to be a Royal Darbar. Compositions of all these eminent composers of the Mysore royal court should be a feast to the ears. Lucky people who get to hear that! I am sure there will be many rasikas there.

Re: OLI Chamber Concerts - Mysore Darbar
My first Oli Concert Report . At three Levels
1. As a grateful rasika who enjoyed an evening of Music .
It was a good sight to see a talented singer being offered a slot - A singer who is featured lesser times in Chennai , than her talent demands . Parvathi Hall is not ideal for an audience strength of more than 30 . Unless one is wiliing to stare at a wall in an adjoining room . Distracted by two middle aged idiots who kept singing along , trying to impress ONLY me . There is an urgent need for sabhas to hire bouncers to keep away this flock of pickwickians , who go wah , bhale , ayyo - (very often at inopportune moments ) to gain attention of the artist and fellow rasikas . I wonder if this was what the organisers meant by participative listening in their leaflet
2. The Concert Per Se .
The singer is at a stage where one can call her an accomplished artist ( No mean feat in any field of endeavour ) . In my books no one - past or present - has handled the Hindusthani idiom as well as her , in a Carnatic concert . Having followed her music for some time I am afraid that she is falling into a sterotype pattern . The concert was like a well rehearsed session - polished to a nicety . I would have loved a bit of adventurous forays - especially since neravals and swaras appeared from song no 2 itself .
3.The Mysore Darbar - Was a bit of a Cliched set . Unless one is willing to accept MS ' s hits as very representative of the songs that poured out of that Darbar. The Vachana was out of place in the scheme of things - but was beautifully sung . Especially the alapana -maru behag - , which was more elaborate than her commercial album . Otherwise the list that went --- Sri Jalandhara , Idu Bhagya , Sree Kamakotipeetasthithe , Sada Saranganayane , Prantarthihara --- meant that a valuable opportunity was lost by the artist . In my books she barely managed to climb out of the Thematic assignment .
But the singing itself was very sweet and flawless . Accoustics were great .Very tuneful and Sruthi Shuddham maintained Kudos to the organisers who keep working at the ideals of small audience concerts .

Oh you poor thing! Must be hard when you attract middle aged singing idiots devoid of concert hall etiquette.varsha wrote:Distracted by two middle aged idiots who kept singing along , trying to impress ONLY me
I am inclined to agree! Carnatica held a concert on the same theme a couple or so years ago during the December music seasonIn my books she barely managed to climb out of the Thematic assignment .
and that kriti selection made that a highly memorable concert.
