Carnatic Music would be nowhere today sans its legendary critics/musicologists like Neelam, Subbudu, K.S.Mahadevan and the like...

With their incisive and frank reviews of the performances that made the careers of many of the vidwans and vidushis of yesteryears, they have enriched the musical milieu indirectly for the better part of the last century.

One such critic that quietly passed into the yonderworld last week (unsung!) was K.S.Mahadevan. He was 93.

Although this is a belated obituary for him, nevertheless we should salute his service to the cause of music. Only some two weeks before he died, he had been honoured at Narada Gana Sabha (http://www.newstodaynet.com/20aug/rf16.htm)

May his soul rest in peace.

Late KSM was a very reputed critic who was known for reviewing dispassionately. He and his wife were close friends of MSS and TS for about 60 years. When Mrs.KSM was down with fracture MS was awarded Sangitha Kalanidhi.MS wanted Mrs.KSM to attend the function, but Doctors refused to allow Mrs.KSM.TS had to convince MS to let it go.
