chaliye kunjanamo

Post by natyasri »

Hi,
I am looking for a danceable audio for Chaliye kunjanamo that is composed by swati tirunal
also for "chidambara natanam bhaje" by Muni Patanjali, popularly known as the charana shringa rahita sloka- actually OS arun has sung it and its on youtube, but i feel its too fast to do much and also, how much ever i still love to go ahead, my teacher is dead against such pieces being without apt mridangam ;(

I want to one more thing: I want to know if there is an audio or video available, where in the dancer has done a jugalbandi with musicians, like without lyrics. I keep listening to the jugalbandis of Ustad Amjad ali khan with others and I always want to weave a story around it. I don't know if i made sense, I hope i did :|

thanks

Its quite often difficult to get 'dance versions' of popular music kritis. The best solution is to befriend some musicians in your hometown and get a custom piece made. I am sure there are many musicians in Hyderabad itself but I can understand that cost may be an issue.

why not try O S Arun directly? or try his niece who also sings for dance performances.

i wish i could. my problem is
1) i am in USA
2) its a small city and i did do a custom piece, 45min long bhavayaami raghuramam, but then we had only Tabla and the muscian.
3)there is no compensation as no matter how talented I am, i will still be a local artist, not touring from india or anything- if you are in small midwest US city, you'd understand what I mean
4) I do performances but dont get much compensation. so shelling out huge amounts of money on just music is not viable. I can always get it studo recorded by my teacher's help, but she insists I get atleast 10 songs and shell out like rs.60,000 or more. I honestly donot have that kind of money.
5) i want and have this deep desire to do so much, but I have severe financial constraints, and I am a mother of 2 small kids- a typical Indian wife, whose first name starts with "no" .so much that I did not buy a new dress or a piece of clothing since almost 2 years!
i do some little at home work like taking surveys etc and make not more than $25 per month, that I save up, but spend on kids- i am mom no...can't help it. Add to that, that my husband hates bharatanatyam, finds my dancing extremely irksome.....
i know thats a lot of info for a small suggestion, but i just found a solution to vent my frustration. sorry..........i really am, but please help me if you can.
i appreciate being here on this forum

with chaliye, only tabla/mridangam and musician will ruin- is what i feel, we need atleast a flute. iam not sure we have a flautist here, but iam on lookout. however can you guys tell me if the OS Arun version of Chidambara Natanam Bhaja, on youtube that I mentioned is danceable? I did discuss wioth my teacher, and she said mridamgam is quintessential. I ahve seen dancers do this kind of stuff. so i tried two stanzas. there is not much gap to move around, but.................please give me your thoughts if I can dance on the same music that of OS Arun????
