Veena Seshanna Memorial Music festival @ NGS 0n 28 08 2011
The festival in association with NGS Trust took place at NGS . Few observations are as follows.
1 The function started at 10-10 hrs with the invocation song by Ms Manasi Prasad with a slokam in praise of Sri Rajeswari and then 'Saradhe varadhe' in Kalyani composed by Veena Seshanna.
2 She compered the entire show.
3 Mysore Subramaniam, a veena player, great teacher and also the chairman of the trust welcomed the gathering in his speech he mentioned that
4 Since Seshanna was closely associated with Chennai Parthsarathy Gana sabha, this year the state capital of Tamilandu has been chosen for the function.
5 Also Swarna murthy V.N Rao was a regualar guest of MA and conducted Lec Dem and attended many conference in MA
6 LGJ who was to attend today's function could not make it as he was slightly indisposed.
7 The " Abath Panthava " N Murali of HIndu and also of MA consented immediately for giving Award
8 MA has compiled Venna Seshanna's compositions edited and published by Pappu Rao in Tamil this year.
9 Prof TNK is in the field of CM for several decades accompanying all stalwarts and also a guiding lamp for the present day musicians.
10 When Classical music is mentioned Nedunuri's name comes to our mind in foremost.
11 Carnatic Sashtriya Sangeetha Vidwan's title befits his aptly.
12 Smt Kaveri Sridhar read out the citation and TNK was honoured with Golden Green coloured shawl by Murali and also with a purse of Rs 50,000/= and a pushpa samarpanam.
13 The same way Nedunuri also was honoured with a Red coloured shawl and a purse of 50,000/=
14 TVG who was invited to the stage presenting a shawl TNK and Nedunuri, mentioned that for the first time a musician in Mecca of CM Chennai is honoured by Karnataka state musicians.
15 Srimushnam also gifted Ponnadai to the two receipients of the award.
SK Prof TNK
16 He mentioned every musicians name who were present in the auditorium and thanked them for their affection.
17 Mysore Subramaniam the king maker or King pin is for organising this function.
18 Today's morning is really wonderful and unforgettable.
19 To receive an honour from Mysore in Chennai is great.
20 Bringing the award to musicians where they are is still great.
21 Because of Seshanna's greatness this function is organised and that too in Chennai
22 Receiving award in cash is still fine.
23 Another greatness is to receive award along with Nedunuri.
24 Really nice to witness the gathering of all musicians including Vaijayanthimala Bali
25 He is here because of his Rasikas and fans
26 He very much likes Murali because of his impartial attitude and broad mind
27 He knows Murali and his family for the past 70 yrs. Murali is only 60 plus.
28 After his entry into MA it has taken a different dimension.
29 He considers as a special honour to receive this award from his hands.
30 The Trust should continue its service for many more years.
SK Nedunuri
31 The present atmosphere of NGS reminds him of MA and it SK award function
32 The gathering here shows the regards for the Artistes.
33 Shri Subramaniam is highly knowledgeable critic of CM
34 He feels happy to receive this award along with SK TNK
35 It is a strange coincidence that VN Rao and hiself are the product of Mysore sadhasiva Rao parampara inturn disciple of Walajabad and again direct sishya parampara of St T
36 He is very thankful to Subramaniam for having selected him for this honour.
37 He is very happy to see all the musicians in front of him as audience.
38 Mysore Subramaniam honoured Murali with a Ponnadai and KA Rama Rao felicitated by Murali again with ponnadai and also Sudha Rao was also honoured with a shawl.
Murali of MA
39 Dr, Rama Rao is the king pin of the function.
40 To meet all the legendary musicians under one roof is the greatest honour and that too as audience and this is a rare sight.
41 This is the second function and is organised by Mysore Subramaniam in Chennai
42 Veena Seshanna's contribution ot CM is enormous.
43. After a lapse of 30 yrs a book in Tamil is published by MA and it is on Seshanna's compositions
44 Prof TNK has contributed a lot to CM for the past 70 yrs. and his sustained excellence over 7 decades is praise worthy.
45 He is enthralling Rasikas not only Inland and also Globally
46 SK Nedunuri's contribution to CM world is unmatchable.
47 He has been visiting MA for the past 50 yrs during conference.
48 Organising a function in Chennai by Chennites is easy but organising from the neighbour state at Chennai is really heartening and praise worthy.
49 Both Mysore and Bangalore have tradition of CM in par with Chennai.
50. Vote of thanks by Ajithkumar of Kolar in which he mentioned everybody's name who were responsible for the smooth conduct of the function
51 The function came to an end with the vocal concert .
TMK Vocal
Sriramkumar violin ,
Srimushnam mirudhangam
Purushothaman Kanjira.
Undethi Ramudu Hari Kambodhi S
Thyagaraja Palayamam Gowla S
upaya kaveri ranga R Gamanasrama Veena Seshanna
Sri Ramam ravikulathi RNT Naryana gowla
Thava ripo Yamuna kalyani
Parukulle nalla nadu
My obervations.
Initially the hall was with 50 audience including the following musicians. M/S UKS, Tiruchur Ramachandran and Charumathi, Vaijayanthimala Bali, Prof SRJ , N Ramani, Vedavalli, Chittur G Venkatesan, Viji Krishnan
The function started 10 mts behind schedule though Murali was present by 5 mts to 10 00
There was a little problem in the mike adjustments and hence thrice Manasi Prasad started to compere
Lot of shawl honouring was witnessed.
As usual TMK's concert was good with lot of importance to Swaraprastharam with enough deviation from the standard format
Thani by Srimushnam and Purushothaman was excellent but in my opinion the strokes of Srimushnam were heavy and noisy in par with swaras of TMK.
Usual bee lining of audience during thani was conspicuous. I really feel bad and I hope they have not changed their habit yet , though this has been discussed several times in this forum. But I really appreciate that our Artistes nowadays never bother about this attitude of audience and they concentrate on showing their skill and keep the genuine rasikas happy. The functions is organised for two days.
