Thanks Sumram
Though some are quite obvious, a few captions will help for some of the not-so-obvious...

Very nice!
Another 'twist' which struck me was the way the young and the established were grouped together--Seasoned performers playing for the young ones was something to experience! This would not have happened in Chennai ;) This was just one of the many surprises we found in the festival.
A boost for the future performers and a gracious egalitarian (?) gesture the veterans were encouraged to (asked to) contribute.
Suji, I know you loved this too! More power to Cleveland!

CML I am not involved with the Sydney Music Festival. If it was streamed I'd subscribe too since its hard for my wife and I to attend the concerts (12 main concerts spread over three days)!

Here is a video of Sriranjani Darbha's performance in the competition. Such a fantastic, genuine talent. I doubt whether she herself is aware of it, much to the credit of this young girl, her parents, and her teachers. I hope those who engage in political talks about the Cleveland Aradhana can put their inflammatory remarks aside - if only for a moment - to appreciate this young girl's hard work and dedication. Let's be grateful that it is being recognized on such a large scale.

What a composure and confidence ! I could not believe this young girl could, without any intimidation, handle the judges interruption and questioning. Good job Sriranjani. Keep it up.

She's a delight! Thanks Ashwin for bringing this clip. I did not register her name when I watched her sing in the festival. Kept refering to her as the super 'little girl' !

Yes, she is such a delight. Quite a confident contestant. The instruction by the judge to sing Thodi from Shankarabaranam R was quite confusing. What was the purpose of that, to see if she can keep the two RIs apart? Or use the R as the new S? I am amazed that she understood what was asked and out came a nice Todi. Audience reaction was awesome as well.

Ashwin - the clip seems to be from 2010 (last year). Is anything available from 2011?

Amazing indeed. I would be totally disoriented if asked to do what she was asked to do. The resilience of youth, I guess. The talent is unquestionable.

God Bless this talented young kid!

I watched the concert competition live and felt there were a few other contestants who were also exceptional. Wonder why they chose to give only one prize this year. (Last year they announced many joint winners - right?) Recollect a stunning Shuba panthuvaraLi by a youngster, mukhari by another kid and a good bhairavi by another competitor.

This year the main prize included concert slots in Chennai and Mumbai as well $1000 towards travel costs. If they had joint winners , it would have been difficult to share the prize.

Abhishek
If you are the same , 2 power 4 congrats to you.
Rajesh, I'm glad you noticed this.

Not sure if Abhishek is reading this thread or is too modest. But I can confirm that it is our fellow forumite Abhishek from Toronto that won the pallavi competition at Cleveland. Let me join Rajesh in extending my warmest congratulations to this very talented young singer. Well done, Abhishek.

Thank you all for your warm wishes! Yes, I'm the same Abhishek Iyer.
For the rAgam tAnam pallavi competition, I was fortunate enough to sing a pallavi composed by Raji aunty in shanmukhapriyA.

Sorry for the extremely late response, I only saw this thread today.
Once again, thanks for all your wishes; I am absolutely overwhelmed by your support and encouragement!

Congratulations Abhishek! What were the lyrics of the pallavi and the tala? What special features did you intergrate into your rendition?

Keep up the good work!

I hear they're airing Cleveland Festival on Jaya TV now. They even seem to have shown the BMK, Sudha, Ravikiran concert which was not streamed live.

Every composition of NSG had sukham--what else? The rAgams flowed, bhAvam being foremost. Seemingly simple, yet powerful words moved the story along. There were many songs which endeared themselves to us. That kuntalavarAli tillAnA of the vAnarAs was a tantalizing piece and I can't wait to listen to it from NSG himself, Sriranjani, Gayatri V and Nisha in concerts. I don't like to give chits in a concert. So, here is a request well in adavance to all--hope I've a chance to listen to it at least once!
It was Neyveli's hour, starting from his concert a few days ago. Then, Sriranjani's concert for which h played the khanjira, then this music for this grand production of two kANDAs which, with the finely handled dance direction from Anitha Guha was such a pleasing affair...
Looking forward to Ravikiran's finale this evening..

Sagars: The young talented singer you mentioned is Ramakrishnan Murthy. Here is more info on him: http://www.hindu.com/fr/2008/07/04/stor ... 750200.htm Also see http://mycarnatic.org/podcastguestbiodata/?title=17)

The concert also featured Vidya Kalyanaraman in addition to the names you already mentioned. There is a short report about this concert earlier in the thread.

Due to time constraints, Jaya TV only showed a small sample of this wonderful concert.

The Allied Ragas program coordinated by Sowmya was good. I heard Bharat Sundar and Ramakrishnan sing Annapoorne and Arabhi Swarams. Did not know that Ramakrishnan is a US local. Great that they found this local talent.

RK Shrikantan concert was great.
