NATYANJALI TRUST - 4th Nartaka Dance Festival - Thursday, October 21, 2010 – Sunday, October 24 2010 Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Auditorium - Mylapore, Chennai

The Natyanjali Trust, established in 1980 by the late Smt. Jayalakshmi Satagopan, is a reputed performing arts organization in Chennai. It was Smt. Jayalakshmi Satagopan’s mission in life to encourage artistic development of young dancers. Through this dedicated work the trust has organized innumerable dance programs for the last 30 years and has introduced many young dancers, many of whom are now established performers and teachers of bharatanatyam.

One of the events the Natyanjali Trust organizes is the Nartaka Dance Festival. This all male dance festival was started in 2007 with a mission to bring in many male dancers, who have made dance their profession. Nartaka Dance Festival 2010 will provide a platform to established dancers and young professional dancers. The 4 day long festival will have group and solo performances with dancers from India and abroad.

Every year during, the Nartaka Dance Festival, Natyanjali Trust confers on an eminent personality in the field of dance the “Nartaka cash award”. The Nartaka cash award is bestowed up on a renowned male dance artist of global repute for his outstanding contribution to classical or other dance forms. We are proud to have Guru Shri Udipi Laxminarayan as the recipient of the Nartaka Award 2010.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2010

6:00PM - Shri Ashish Mohan Khokar (Scholar – Editor, Attendance) will inaugurate the function

6:30 PM – Talk on male dancers by Shri Ashish Mohan Khokar, Shri Ramli Ibrahim, Shri Ranvir Shah & Dr. Smt. Gowri Ramnarayan.

Followed by a short film - male dancers of the last century.

7:00 PM – Bharatanatyam “Encounters with Krishna” Performance by Ramli Ibrahim, Shanmuga Sundaram, Guna & Harenthiran

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2010

5:45 PM – Bharatanatyam by Kiran Rajagopalan (U.S.A.) – disciple of Guru Shri A. Lakshman & Guru Smt. Bragha Bessell

7:15 PM – Odissi Group Performance by Rudrakshya Dance Company (Bhubaneshwar) with Lingaraj Pradhan, Amulya Balabataray, & Rashmi Ranjan Barik

5:45 PM – Bharatanatyam by Pavitra Bhat (Mumbai) – disciple of Guru Shri Deepak Mazumdar

7:15 PM – Contemporary Indonesian Dance by Rianto, Wijanarko, & Wahyu Bayu Prasltyan

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2010

Honourable Union Minister of State for HRD, Dr. Smt. D. Purandeshwari, will preside and present the Nartaka 2010 Award to: GURU SHRI UDIPI LAXMINARAYAN

Guest of Honour – Shri G. Ramkumar (Sivaji Productions)

Shri Ashish Mohan Khokar will felicitate the guru.
