In the above link could you pls. tell me if lady dancers are allowed to keeps their hands from 1.57 - 2.00 in the waist when they do their jathis. I always thought only male dancers do it that way.

For ur 2nd link, I ve seen that video over a 100 times.. I ve never noticed wat u said. I think it really doesn't matter how she keeps her hands on her waist.. And ,IN MY OPINION, I think there is much more to see and enjoy in that piece, specially the choreo and how she makes it seem easy

I Completely agree with madhan, It really doesn't matter. Even guys hold it the other way. I actually saw this thillana live! No words to describe how beautiful she dances! She has so much energy for her age and vibrance!! Shes just great!
I remember something being told in Dhanajayan sirs lec-demo from the natyakala conference about the hands on the waist.

@Sou2
Regarding first link
0.05-0.30 is in 3rd speed and not 4th speed. if you take it to be the 4th speed, the jati does not finish in a proper cycle of talam.
It appears ridiculously fast because their first speed (in bhavayami 1 trikala jathi-first speed) is not slow enough. So 3rd speed even faster than most dances.
the speed doesnt reduce after that to 2nd speed. it goes into what is called tishram which involves splitting one beat into 3 rather than the normal 1-2-4 segments. Tishram appears slower than 3rd speed because now the time elapsed between two segments is 1/3rd of a beat rather than 1/4th of a beat as in 3rd speed.

Re: Doubts in dance
Hi Madan and Bjankumar,
Like all others I also enjoyed her dance on youtube, it is just that I have a query and i think this is a forum where we could clear our doubts.
I was always under the impression that is an incorrect way of dancing for a female dancer. I know that Ms. Leela Samson could never go wrong. anyway just a doubt and wanted to clear it.
